Pontiac State Hospital/Clinton Valley Center

Pontiac State Hospital/Clinton Valley Center Originally over 500 acres Pontiac State Hospital was first enacted into law in 1873. The hospital was designed by Architect E. E.

Construction began in February of 1875 and was official opened in August 1878 with a patient population of 222, 121 males and 101 females. Myers of Detroit and built in the Kirkbride style. The first superintendent was Henry M. Hurd, he served from 1878 to 1889. The cost of the grounds and buildings at opening where valued at over $467,000, that's 10 Million in 2012 dollars.

Stevens Cottage, Pontiac State Hospital, Pontiac Michigan. Finding a lot of Pontiac State Hospital cards lately that I have not seen before. I love adding new postcards to my collection. I am now well over 1,000 cards to date and have been collecting state hospital postcards for over 15 years.
