Preparing for your first Airbnb cleaning client?

Before you accept the keys, there is much more to consider than how long it takes to clean the property.

Who manages the linens?

Who supplies the amenities?

How much inventory is stored on-site?

What happens when a guest leaves an excessive mess, or checks out late?

Can the unit realistically be turned over in two hours or less?

Are you accounting for laundry, restocking, inspections, documentation, communication, early arrivals, and travel?

Have you introduced yourself to the HOA or property management team?

If you're working at a resort or managed community, you may need a vendor pass, proof of insurance, parking authorization, or specific access credentials before your first turnover.

Vacation-rental cleaning is not ordinary maintenance cleaning. You are helping manage the guest experience, protect the property, and prepare every detail before the next arrival.

Protection in the field matters.

Cleaners often work alone inside unfamiliar properties, with our backs turned and our attention focused on the job.

In an emergency, the priority is to create distance and get out.

My first line of protection is awareness.

I pay attention to who is supposed to be inside the home. I notice exits. I keep my phone accessible.

Someone knows where I am. I trust my instincts, use my voice, and leave when something feels wrong.

Your entire cleaning kit can be replaced.

Create distance, make noise, get outside, call 911, and do not go back for your belongings.

You do not owe anyone politeness when your body is warning you.

Be professional. Be confident. Be kind.

But never ignore your instincts in someone else's space.

There really is something special about cleaners.

The support, the honesty, the "girl, I get it," the advice, the laughs, the way we understand each other's tired bodies and overworked hearts.

This world can be heavy, especially in service work. Not everyone respects what goes into the job. Not everyone sees the back-breaking detail, the care, the pride, or the emotional weight behind showing up for someone else's space.

Found an old vacation rental operations binder this morning, and it's a beautiful reminder that we do more than most ever see.

I honestly thought I had trashed this years ago, but I'm so glad I didn't.

Professional cleaning is not just wiping counters and making beds.

Just sharing a little of our DIY home project journey.

Bobby has put so much work into this place, from the kitchen details to the sinks, butcher block counters, fixtures, shiplap, flooring, and painting the inside and outside.

It'll be hard to part with this home one day. The view, the yard, the memories we've made here… I hope whoever gets it next loves it the way we do.

For now, we'll keep making it comfortable, beautiful, and ready for the next hive. 🤍

Getting back on today reminded me exactly why my body is built the way it is.

I rode for over 10 years. I played soccer. I danced. I spent so much of my life using my body with strength, rhythm, balance, and control.

But I've also spent the last decade not doing those things, while carrying injuries, life, stress, and everything in between.

Today reminded me what it really takes to use your body to guide the ride. I was out of breath in a way cleaning doesn't even do to me. 😂

And it was absolutely amazing.

Krystal, you are a gem. Thank you for making the whole experience feel comfortable and safe. I never felt like I had to perform or pretend I remembered everything. You gave me room to just be there, connect with Rio, and find my way back into it.

Horse & Hound, thank you for such a beautiful morning.

I'll be back next week, Rio. And yes, sweet boy, I'll bring an apple. ❤️🐴
