Insight From Our Patients | "Dr. Makim is so good at what he does. I would definitely recommend him. He takes the time to listen to patients and explains things that are easy to understand. He did a total knee replacement for me a few years ago. He'll be replacing my other one soon. He also did some work on one of my shoulders that needs to be replaced. I have been getting cortisone injections for pain relief in the meantime, which are really helpful." –K. B.

When most people think of an ankle sprain, they picture the ankle rolling outward. But there’s another, less common type—called a medial ankle sprain.

The medial (deltoid) ligament on the inside of the ankle is much stronger than the ligaments on the outside, which makes it less likely to be stretched or torn. Because of this, medial sprains make up only about 15% of all ankle sprains.

These injuries are seen more often in sports like football, soccer, and gymnastics, where they usually result from a direct blow to the ankle rather than a simple twist.

Building strength in the muscles around your ankle can help reduce your risk. Balance exercises, such as standing on one foot, improve stability and make it less likely that you’ll roll or injure your ankle. Wearing proper footwear and protective gear during sports also plays an important role in preventing injury.

Our team is here to help in the event of an injury. Give us a call and we’ll help get you back on your feet!

Your Experience Matters | "Dr. Pasia is an excellent provider who helped me recover from a herniated disc (L4/L5) and got me back to work! He was patient and kind, listened to my concerns, and explained the options for treatment. I am grateful for the conservative approach that allowed me to avoid surgery and for a cautious reentry plan back to work to protect against reinjury. I’m feeling SO much better and am optimistic that I’ll make a full recovery! Thank you, Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron, you are amazing, and I highly recommend anyone to go here for treatment!" –Paul W.
