💜 September is National Recovery Month. 💜

Recovery is possible, and it looks different for everyone. This month, we recognize the strength of people in recovery, celebrate the families, peers, and professionals who support them, and continue working toward communities where everyone has access to the treatment and support they need.

Throughout September, we’ll share resources, events like the Recovery Summit, and information that support recovery and help reduce the stigma surrounding substance use and mental health.

Local students are heading back to the classroom over the next several days. This back-to-school season often brings a mix of emotions, both for students and parents. While some children may be eager to get back to school routines, others may be hesitant, fearful, or anxious. In this post, the Mental Health Coalition outlines six ways parents and caregivers can help children manage back-to-school stress and uncertainty.

Back to college means a lot of new things to learn, including where to turn if you or a friend needs mental health support.

Before the semester gets busy, take a few minutes to learn what resources are available on your campus, how to access them, and who you can call after hours. A little planning now can make it much easier to ask for help later.

📍 Staying local? SCCCMH’s 24/7 Crisis Line is available anytime at 810-966-2575.

Save the numbers. Know your options. Look out for each other.

Recent polling suggests this issue may be becoming more important to Michigan voters.

In January 2022, 40% of likely voters said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who favored shifting management of Medicaid mental health services to private health insurance companies. Today, that number has increased to 49%.

The results suggest the issue has become more significant to many voters over the past four years.
