Happy Mother’s Day to all of the of the moms celebrating their special day. As with most aspects of the nervous system, the relationship between a mother and child is neurologically complex from the beginning. In a study published in 2014, it was found that participants that were placed in a visual art production group had more resilience than those individuals that were placed in a group which evaluated art that was located in a museum. Of particular interest in this study was the use of Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) to also examine the changes which occurred to the brains of both study groups. You’ve probably heard that the eyes are the windows to the soul, but you may not know that they are also an excellent way to visualize the overall health of the nervous system. Finite measurements of eye movements can be useful in the diagnosis of a multitude of conditions, including ADHD and Major Depressive Disorder. Interestingly enough, corrections to these eye movement abnormalities can often times be used as an adjunctive treatment for these same conditions.
