Researchers left a giant teddy bear in the woods to see if animals would react to a plushie the way humans do.

Scientists wanted to know if soft comfort was something only people connected with, so they placed a large bear plushie deep in the woods and set up trail cameras around it.

At first, nothing happened. Then, hours later, a black bear wandered into frame. The bear slowly approached the plushie, sniffed it, circled it, and then did something nobody expected.

It leaned in and wrapped its front legs around it. Researchers watching the footage were stunned. Out of every animal that could have found the plushie, it was a bear that stopped and held it like it understood exactly what it was for.

Nobody can say for sure what the bear felt in that moment.

But the footage made people realize something simple.

Maybe soft things bring comfort to more than just humans, maybe animals understand the need for something to hold too.
