Howdy friends! This is a bit of a long one, so please bear with us...
We need a small favor from those of you who have been so kind as to rent our mobility products while visiting the Forgotten Coast.
When you have a moment, we would love for you to email us about the specific accessibility challenges you faced at your vacation rental home. Along with the challenge, what simple solution would you recommend? (Ideally, solutions that don't require major construction!)
For example: One guest mentioned a door threshold so high their daily wheelchair couldn't clear it. Their clever, temporary solution was backing their van up and using its ramp to get inside.
Because of real-world feedback like that, we now carry small portable ramps on our van that when requested we provide free of charge when dropping off your beach mobility equipment. Whether someone relies on a chair every day, is recovering from surgery, or has temporary stability balance issues, these small fixes make a huge difference.
What’s the Big Plan?
We are creating a "Mobility-Friendly Rental Property List" page on our website!
Once we consolidate your feedback, we will share these common challenges with local vacation property owners to see which homes already have smart solutions in place. While 99.9% of vacation homes aren't strictly "ADA compliant," many have wonderful features that make traveling easier, such as:
Low or zero-entry showers
Stability grab bars in bathrooms
Portable shower/potty chairs
Low entry door thresholds
Doorways that are 32 to 36 inches wide
Single-story layouts
Multi-story homes with an elevator, lift, or access ramp
Multi-story homes with a bedroom and bathroom on the main floor
Direct beach access with no steps, or nearby flat public access points
Everyone’s mobility needs are different. A home doesn't have to be perfect—just having one or two of these features is a massive win. Even if a property's only feature is a step-free boardwalk to the sand, that’s a huge plus in our book!
Over the years, our conversations with you have led us to offer free entry ramps, a free child booster seat, and low-cost standard wheelchairs and walkers so you don't have to haul them on a plane or in a packed car.
Our goal is simply to make your next stay on the coast safer, easier, and more enjoyable by providing this free community resource.
Please email your experiences to us at [email protected].
Warmest regards,
PnT
