Morning meditation/prayer can be one of the most sacred parts of the day. It isn’t only a time to express our grievances, ask for solutions, or seek guidance; it’s also a time to give reverence, express gratitude, become grounded, and acknowledge the blessings that already surround us.
I love when mothers share this practice with their children. It doesn’t always have to be something they sit down and do together. Sometimes, simply allowing your children to see you pray, meditate, become still, give thanks, and intentionally connect with something greater than yourself is enough. Children learn so much by witnessing what we practice, not just by listening to what we teach.
When children see their mother take a moment to become still before facing the demands of the day, they learn that it’s okay to pause. They learn that they can seek guidance when they don’t have all the answers, find peace in moments of uncertainty, and cultivate gratitude even when life isn’t perfect.
Perhaps one day, when those children face challenges of their own, they will remember what they witnessed. They may remember their mother closing her eyes, taking a breath, praying, giving thanks, and grounding herself before stepping back into the world. The most powerful thing we can teach our children isn’t what to believe; it’s how to create space within themselves to listen, reflect, connect, and find their center.
For the mother, those moments can become sacred nourishment, too. Because there’s something profoundly powerful about pausing before the day begins and reminding yourself: “I am still here. I am grateful. I am guided. I have what I need to take the next step.” That’s a legacy… something beautiful, raw, and real to be remembered.
