September is Su***de Prevention Month—a reminder that prevention can begin with something as simple as reaching out.
Sometimes, the people who are struggling the most may not know how to ask for help or may not show obvious signs that they are having a difficult time.
You don’t need to have the perfect words. You can start with:
💬 “How are you really doing?”
💬 “I’ve noticed you’ve seemed different lately. Want to talk?”
💬 “You don’t have to go through this alone.”
Listening without judgment, staying connected, and helping someone find appropriate support can make a meaningful difference.
If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of su***de or is in emotional distress:
📞 Call or text 988 — The 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline provides free, confidential, 24/7 support.
🚨 If there is immediate danger or a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
You don’t have to wait for someone to ask for help before letting them know you’re there.
