March is National Essential Tremor Awareness Month. We would like to take some time to increase the understanding of one of the most common movement (8 times more likely than Parkinson’s Disease). Essential tremor (ET) is a neurological condition that causes involuntary shaking often in the hands, but also in the arms, head, larynx, tongue, and chin. While sometimes disregarded as “shaky hands” this condition can meaningfully impact day to day living and independence. As always at Treasure Coast we value spreading accurate information to diminish stigma and promote early recognition, evaluation, and care.

Here are two links to learn more about ET which affects 7 million Americans:

We live in a busy and hectic world. Oftentimes, the pressure of staying busy and productive can cause stress and force us into auto-pilot. Practicing mindfulness and being intentionally present can help reduce this effect. Here are some resources to learn mindfulness, the positive effects it can have, and how you can implement it in your life:

Some food for thought! Did you know that what you eat can significantly impact your brain health throughout your life? A recent article highlights the strong connection between diet and cognitive function. Nutrient-rich foods can boost memory and protect against neurodegenerative diseases, while processed foods may have the opposite effect.

The takeaway? Prioritize a balanced diet full of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats for a sharper mind as you age. Let's nourish our brains for a healthier future! 💪❤️
