Fifteen years.

That's how long Dawn has been coming through our doors at Our House Portage, and how long our residents have had her in their corner.

Fifteen years of knowing how everyone takes their coffee. Of birthdays, holidays, hard days, and a whole lot of ordinary mornings that were better because she was in them.

Dawn, thank you for 15 years of sharing your care with the ones who are here. We're lucky to call this house yours too. 💛

🎶💖 A big thank you to Sherri, the harpist, for coming and sharing her beautiful music with us! We loved listening to the harp and hearing the wonderful stories she shared while she played. What a special and relaxing time! 🎵✨

As summer winds down, we’re grateful for the memories, laughter, and friendships we’ve shared. ☀️🍃

What an unforgettable month it has been! We were delighted to welcome Wistex, whose music and stories brought smiles and excitement to everyone. Our ice cream socials gave us the opportunity to spend quality time together, build stronger connections, and celebrate friendships that make our community so special.
August was also LEC Jona’s last month with us as she embarked on a new chapter in her life. We are grateful for all she has contributed and wish her happiness and success in the future!

Do you love games, circus acts, petting adorable animals, and more?! Well, we will have all of that here in Portage from 1-3:00p.m.!

WISC-TV came to perform today, and it is always such a joy to hear the wonderful music they play! 🎶 They even brought instruments for everyone to enjoy and participate. Thank you for sharing the gift of music with us! ❤️

RESIDENT HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH: Juanita K.

Here at Our House Senior Apartments, we sat down with Juanita to ask her a few questions and she was happy to answer!

What was it like growing up?
“We lived in the back country. It was almost like the Amish, but we had an old car. We didn’t have electricity; we used lamps. We had to clean them out too, to get rid of all the oil and dust! We didn’t have a fridge and we cooked on a wood stove. My mother canned fruits like peaches, plums, pears and some tomatoes. We harvested our own vegetables from the garden and we butchered our own animals to make sausages and things like that.”

What is your favorite memory?
“Oh, I have lots of memories, a lot of favorite ones too. I would say my kids and family. One thing was Saturday nights my kids and I would all sit down in the living room and watch ‘Gun Smoke’ with two gallons of milk, a sheet of fudge and a big bowl of popcorn. That was always a fun time spent with my kids.”

Do you want to share any fun facts or hobbies about yourself?
“Well, I loved my music. I would sing with my daughter; we were the ‘Farmers Daughters’ and we would go out and sing Reba and The Judds.”

How do you like living at Our House?
“Living at Our House, you meet new friends, play Bingo and cards, enjoy coffee, bus trips, ice cream socials, listening to music and singing by local talent, gathering for Thanksgiving which includes our families and nap times in between! Friendly staff, clean facility and it’s decorated for each important holiday. In between times, we can manage visits home with our children and friends for a few days to catch up with all the family events. Then, it’s back to ‘Our House’ to share any family news outings and rest up from our trip in our favorite rocking chairs. We also enjoy short religious services with singing and a short sermon. Thank you the wonderful pastor. After a while, it all becomes like family. That’s what’s good about living at ‘Our House’. It feels like home.”
