☕ Thank You for Joining Our First Better Bones Coffee Meet-Up!

On Tuesday, we hosted our first Better Bones Coffee Meet-Up: What Actually Improves Bone Density? at Pure Movement, and I want to thank everyone who attended.

We had a great discussion about osteoporosis, bone density, and what the research actually says about keeping bones strong as we age. We covered common myths, why walking alone may not always be enough to improve bone density, how bones respond to exercise through a process called loading, and the important role that strength training can play in supporting bone health.

One of the biggest takeaways was that bones are living tissue that respond to challenge throughout life. While aging does affect bone density, there are many things we can do to support strength, confidence, and independence.

As usual, I got caught up in the conversation and forgot to take pictures until the very end, so a few attendees had already left by the time I remembered! Still, I was able to grab a group photo with some of the wonderful people who joined us.

I'm excited to continue this series and create more opportunities for education, conversation, and community around healthy aging.

Our next workshop is:
☕ The Fall Prevention Formula: Building Power, Balance & Stability
📅 Tuesday, June 30th
⏰ 10:00 AM
Link: https://www.pure-movement.com/upcoming-events/the-fall-prevention-formula-workshop.

We'll discuss how improving power, balance, and stability can help reduce the risk of falls and fractures while supporting long-term independence.
Thank you again to everyone who attended. I look forward to seeing you at the next one!

One of the most common things I hear is:

"I walk every day, so I should be covered for bone health."

Walking is excellent exercise. It helps heart health, mood, mobility, and overall wellness.

But here’s where things get interesting:

Research suggests that when it comes specifically to maintaining or improving bone density, walking alone may not always provide enough challenge.

Bones are living tissue. They adapt to stress and demand. Exercise scientists often refer to this as loading—the forces placed on bones through movement and muscle activity.

The body responds best when movement includes things like:
• Strength training
• Weight-bearing movement
• Balance work
• Progressive challenge over time

This doesn't mean people need to become bodybuilders or perform intense workouts.
It means understanding how bones respond and learning how to create the right kind of stimulus safely.

That’s exactly why I’m starting a new workshop series at Pure Movement:

☕ Better Bones Coffee Meet-Up: What Actually Improves Bone Density

We’ll discuss:
✔ Common myths surrounding osteoporosis and exercise
✔ Why walking and light exercise alone may not be enough
✔ What “loading” means
✔ Movement demonstrations that support bone health
✔ Practical ways to improve strength and confidence

When: Tuesday, June 2nd at 10-10:45am
Cost: FREE
Space: Limited to only 8 participants

Many people think of bones as fixed structures.

But bones are actually active, living tissue.

Throughout life, bone constantly remodels itself in response to the demands placed on it.

A helpful way to think about it:

Bones are listening.

When muscles pull harder, when movement becomes more challenging, when the body experiences meaningful load—the body receives a signal:

"We need to stay strong here."

That’s one reason strength and resistance exercise has become such an important conversation around healthy aging.

Bone health isn't only about preventing osteoporosis.

It’s about:
✔ Maintaining independence
✔ Improving strength
✔ Reducing fall risk
✔ Supporting confidence and mobility
✔ Continuing to do the activities you enjoy

That’s why I’m excited to launch a new community series at Pure Movement:

☕ Better Bones Coffee Meet-Up: What Actually Improves Bone Density
