National Food Bank Day is coming up on September 4th, and we’ve decided to spread a little kindness by hosting a Food Drive! 🥫❤️

📅 August 17th–September 3rd

Anyone and everyone is welcome to bring non-perishable food donations to our home! We’ll be collecting donations through September 3rd and then delivering everything to the Calvary Baptist Food Distribution Center on September 3rd. 🙌

Every can, box, and bag makes a difference! 🥰

Listen to how we talk about older people and one word keeps showing up.

He's still sharp. She still drives. He still does his own taxes.

We mean it warmly. But look at what's underneath it — every one of those sentences quietly assumes that by now, he shouldn't be. The compliment is really surprise. And he can hear that as clearly as you can.

Tomorrow is National Senior Citizens Day. When Reagan signed the proclamation in 1988, the wording honored older Americans for what they'd achieved — and then, in the same breath, for all they continue to accomplish. Present tense. Not a thank-you note for a finished life.

So here's a suggestion for tomorrow. Instead of thanking him, ask him for something. Advice. A recipe. How to fix a thing.

Being asked is worth more than being thanked. It's the difference between being valued and being appreciated.
