We are excited to introduce our new General Manager, Karma! 💛🧘🏽♀️🪐
Originally from Chicago, she began her career in media and influencer marketing before relocating to London to pursue a Master’s degree in South Asian Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
Her graduate research focused on Vedic ritual traditions, the migration and development of Brahmanical traditions throughout the Indian subcontinent, and comparative analyses of Proto-Indo-European spiritual expression. Through academia, yoga first emerged to her as a living intellectual, philosophical, and religious tradition.
While at SOAS, Karma studied subjects including The Origins of Yoga and Meditation and Ancient Religions of India under some of the world’s leading scholars of yoga, including James Mallinson. She became particularly fascinated by concepts such as tapas from the Sanskrit root tap, “to burn,” a principle describing the inner heat generated through discipline, devotion, and sustained effort. Her graduate essays examined yoga in the Upanishads, the earliest signs of yoga, and the phenomenon of siddhis, or the attainment of supernatural powers through yogic practice.
Alongside her studies, Karma developed a rigorous hot yoga practice, attending classes five times a week and experiencing profound transformation physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Following the completion of her master’s degree, Karma made the decision to leave the corporate media world behind and dedicate herself fully to the yoga industry. She went on to serve as Assistant Manager of Bikram Yoga London before relocating to Los Angeles to begin an exciting new chapter with YogaSix Porter Ranch.
Karma is passionate about cultivating a studio culture that honors both the physical and philosophical dimensions of yoga while fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive community for practitioners of every experience level.
From June 29 through July 5, members are invited to stop by for Meet & Greet Week to learn more about Karma, ask questions, share ideas, and hear about her vision for the future of YogaSix Porter Ranch.
