Symptoms not to ignore-men’s health edition

Ignoring these symptoms will not make them go away but rather are reason to start a serious conversation with your doctor.

-Snoring may be a sign of sleep apnea, a condition that can increase your risk of high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. A sleep study may be recommended.
-Change in bowel habits. Blood in your stool or change in color, shape or frequency of your bowel movements may indicate infectious, inflammatory or colorectal cancer. We can take the next steps for evaluation.
-Chest pain/ Persistent shortness of breath. Having these symptoms while resting or with activity may not be normal and may point to a sign of cardiovascular disease. We know the next steps to help you.
-Problem getting an er****on. This may be an sign of a vascular issue and is important to discuss with your doctor to assess your cardiovascular health. Let’s get this taken care of.
-Trouble urinating. Pain with urination or frequent urination are not normal and may be a sign of infection, enlarged prostate or a metabolic condition. Don’t let this symptom go unnoticed.
-Skin spots. Moles that are growing, changing color, shape should not be ignored and be evaluated. Let’s schedule you for a skin check.
-Persistent back or abdominal pain : back pain can arise from various activities however if pain persists and does not go away with over the counter pain relievers, massage or rest it may be a sign of a more ominous condition such as an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Stabbing abdominal pain should be evaluated by a physician as it can point pathology of vital organs such as the appendix, gallbladder, liver or pancreas.
-Feeling sad or irritated. Mental health is as important as physical health and these feelings may indicate depression, increased stress, hormonal imbalance. Be sure to bring up your concerns with your doctor.

We are here to help. Schedule your appointment and don’t brush off these symptoms.

Let’s get this right! Where you inject your subcutaneous medication depends on your medication working.

Here are 3 locations that you can choose from.

1. Back of arm- 3 inches below the shoulder and 3 inches above the elbow, this injection is great if someone else administers your medication
2. Outer thigh: middle front or middle outer side of your thigh
3. Abdomen: Low the ribs and above the hip bones, stay 2 inches away from the navel.

Remember to rotate your sites. If you need help with administering your medications you can schedule a nurse visit and we will guide you through it.

Knowing where to inject your subcutaneous medication is just as important as where not to inject.

These are areas you should avoid.

- Damaged skin (broken skin, irritated skin, red skin, infected skin, bruised skin)
- Do not inject into scars
- Over bone or joints
- Avoid the same spot repeatedly
