A pediatric speculum wasn’t designed for adult woman, and using one doesn’t address why the traditional design causes pain in the first place: cold material, harsh ratcheting, and a shape that fights the body instead of working with it.

Your 40s is when your well-woman visit gets bigger.

Breast cancer screening is now recommended starting at 40. Colorectal cancer screening starts at 45. Cervical cancer screening (which began at 21) continues. Add in depression, anxiety, blood pressure, lipids, domestic violence, and diabetes screening, and your annual visit is carrying a lot of weight.

These screenings exist because early detection works. But they only work if you go.
