Wellness Wednesday: Achieve your dream smile with minimal risk.

A beautiful smile should not come at the expense of your healthy teeth.

Traditional veneers often require removing natural enamel, a permanent change that may increase the risk of sensitivity and weaken the long-term integrity of the tooth.

No-prep veneers offer a more conservative option.
At Blodgett Dental Care, Dr. Kelly Blodgett uses a biologically aligned approach to smile enhancement, one that prioritizes whole-body health, longevity, and natural beauty.

Why patients love no-prep veneers:
🦷 Preserve healthy enamel
No-prep veneers are designed to enhance the smile without aggressively grinding down natural tooth structure.

✨ A brighter, natural-looking smile
They can help improve shape, shade, and symmetry while still looking like you.

😁 Minimal discomfort
Because the approach is more conservative, patients often avoid many of the sensitivity concerns associated with traditional veneer preparation.

🌿 Biocompatible and long-lasting
When properly planned and bonded to healthy enamel, no-prep veneers can be a durable, beautiful, and biologically sound choice.

Research has shown that no-prep and minimally invasive veneers can perform as well as traditional veneers in carefully selected cases.

There is a better way, conservative, comfortable, biologically based, and beautiful.

Toxic Tuesday: The link between chronic oral infection and breast cancer.

Many people are surprised to learn that what happens in the mouth does not stay in the mouth.

Research continues to explore the connection between chronic oral infections and systemic disease, including breast cancer. Several studies have found associations between periodontal disease, chronic inflammation, oral bacteria, and increased breast cancer risk — especially in postmenopausal women.

One possible link is inflammation.

When the immune system is constantly responding to infection in the mouth, inflammatory signals may circulate throughout the body and influence tissue health far beyond the teeth and gums.

Scientists have also identified oral bacteria, including Fusobacterium nucleatum, in breast tumor tissue. This does not prove direct cause and effect, but it does highlight the importance of understanding the oral-systemic connection.

Chronic dental stressors may include:
• untreated gum disease
• infected root canals
• jawbone inflammation or cavitation lesions
• toxic dental materials

The takeaway is not fear.

It is awareness.

Your mouth is part of your body. Chronic infection in the mouth may contribute to an ongoing immune burden that affects whole-body health.

At Blodgett Dental Care, we help patients look deeper — identifying hidden dental toxicity and supporting the body through biologically based care.

If your goal is to live your healthiest life and reduce unnecessary sources of chronic inflammation, BioDental Rejuvenation may be an important part of your journey.

Wellness Wednesday: What if root canals were no longer an option?

What would dentists do differently if they could no longer rely on root canals when a tooth becomes painful after treatment?

This is an important question because many cases of tooth pain after fillings, crowns, or mercury removal may be avoidable.

A common scenario looks like this: a health-conscious patient asks to have mercury fillings replaced with a less toxic material. The dentist agrees, hopefully using proper safety protocols such as SMART or PROTECT.

But after the numbness wears off, a tooth that was not painful before suddenly becomes sensitive or painful.

The patient returns, the bite is checked, and they are told, “It looks like you need a root canal.”

But if the tooth did not hurt before treatment and only began hurting afterward, shouldn’t we ask what happened during the procedure?

Teeth are living body parts. When the right techniques are used, post-treatment pain can often be reduced or avoided.

Two of the most common causes of pain after dental work are overheating the tooth from aggressive drilling and poor-quality bonding techniques. The good news is that better tools, better materials, and more thoughtful techniques exist.

At Blodgett Dental Care, our goal is not just to restore teeth, it is to protect vitality, preserve structure, and support whole-body health.

Toxic Tuesday: Saving your teeth at all costs is not always the best idea.

We have been taught that saving a tooth is always the “right” choice.

But is it always the healthiest choice?

A tooth that is chronically infected, root canal-treated, or surrounded by long-standing inflammation does not exist in isolation. It is connected to the rest of the body, including the immune system, circulation, nervous system, and overall energetic balance.

When bacteria and their byproducts remain trapped in dentinal tubules or surrounding bone, the immune system may be forced to respond continuously. Over time, that ongoing burden may contribute to inflammation, fatigue, brain fog, and stress on the body.

This is not about fear.

It is about awareness.

There are absolutely times when preserving a tooth supports health. But there are also times when holding onto a compromised tooth may ask the body to compensate indefinitely.

In those cases, thoughtfully removing the source of chronic irritation and rebuilding with biocompatible materials, such as ceramic implants and all-ceramic crowns, may help support long-term health without introducing metal into the body.

Biological dentistry is not about “pull everything.”

It is about asking a deeper question:
Does the health of this tooth support the health of the whole person?

Sometimes true healing begins not by saving teeth at all costs, but by choosing what allows the body to function with greater clarity, coherence, and vitality.

If you are working to regain your health and suspect your dental health may be contributing, our team is here to help.

Throwback Thursday: Even small fillings can lead to future problems.

Your teeth were designed to last a lifetime, but once a tooth has been drilled and filled, its structural integrity is permanently changed.

Many people experience dental decay early in life, often due to modern diets that are calorie-rich and nutrient-poor. In the U.S. alone, more than 175 million fillings are placed every year. While fillings may seem routine, they can leave teeth more vulnerable to cracks and fractures over time.

Today’s images show what can happen years after a tooth has been drilled and restored.

This patient had a mercury filling placed as a child. Years later, the mercury was removed and replaced with a less toxic composite filling. She thought that would be the last care the tooth would need.

Unfortunately, because the tooth had already lost structural strength, years of chewing pressure eventually caused it to fracture.

At first, she had no symptoms. Then she began feeling pain when chewing harder foods. By the time she came to see us, she could not put pressure on the tooth at all.
We attempted to locate the fracture and restore the tooth, but the crack had extended deep into the bone.

The tooth was split like a log and ultimately had to be removed.

This is why prevention matters.

Whenever possible, the goal should be to avoid unnecessary drilling and support the health of the tooth before damage occurs. And if you already have a cracked or painful tooth, address it early before the fracture spreads.

At Blodgett Dental Care, we help patients optimize the health of their teeth through a biological, whole-body approach.

Wellness Wednesday: Jawbone cavitations — what they are and why they matter.

Jawbone cavitations, also called FDOJ lesions, are areas of poor healing in the jawbone that may develop after extractions, wisdom teeth removal, or chronic irritation.

They can be difficult to detect, which is why a whole-body dental evaluation may include several tools:

✅ Clinical history — especially past dry sockets or poor healing after extractions

✅ 3D CBCT imaging — helpful for evaluating bone density and jaw structure

✅ Energy testing — used in some biological practices to assess energetic stress in the jaw

✅ Jawbone ultrasound — technology such as CaviTAU may help evaluate bone quality

At Blodgett Dental Care, our biologically based protocols are designed to support the body’s natural healing process. This may include ozone, vitamin C support, L-PRF, homeopathy, lymphatic support, light therapy, and PEMF therapy.

If you have concerns about old extraction sites, wisdom teeth removal, or jawbone healing, it may be time to look deeper.

Toxic Tuesday: Making lemonade out of lemons 🍋

This patient’s story is one of my favorites. She came to us determined to restore both her health and her smile.

After years of dental challenges , including mercury fillings, a root canal, and trauma to her front teeth, she knew it was time for a different approach. Her goals were simple:
• remove toxic materials and dead teeth
• straighten her smile
• restore it naturally with biologically compatible materials

At BDC, we helped her do just that. We replaced her mercury fillings with biocompatible composite fillings, straightened her teeth with clear aligners, removed the root canal, and restored her smile with a ceramic implant, no-prep CEREC veneers, and a ceramic crown.

She traveled from Los Angeles to Portland for care and today, she has the healthy, natural smile she had been hoping for.

If mercury fillings, root canals, broken teeth, or old dental work are affecting your confidence or your health, we may be able to help.

Throwback Thursday: Root canals, lymph drainage, and whole-body health.

Chronic oral infections, root canals, cavitation lesions, and toxic dental materials may place stress on the body in ways many people never consider.

The lymphatic system acts like the body’s waste-management system, helping clear inflammation, infection, and toxins. But when lymph flow becomes restricted, the body may have a harder time doing that important work.

This is why oral health matters.

If infected teeth or toxic materials are creating an ongoing burden, the effects may not stay limited to the mouth. They may influence inflammation, immune function, and overall wellness.

Every choice we make — what we eat, drink, wear, think, and allow in our mouths — can impact whole-body health.

At Blodgett Dental Care, we help patients uncover hidden dental toxicity and support the body’s ability to feel whole again.
