Duncan Edward Jones, 94 of Portland, Tn. passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Westmoreland Healthcare, Mr. Jones was born July 28, 1931 to the late Duncan Edward Jones and Clara Lee Hall Jones in Robertson County.

Along with his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his sons, Johnny Jones, Bobby Jones and Eddie Jones; wife, Betty Wilson Jones; and sisters, Gladys Goosetree & Clara Louise Stewart.

Mr. Jones is survived by step sons, Phil (Sheri) Wilson, Bob (Penny) Wilson, John (Melanie) Wilson; nephews, Mike (Beverly) Kitchens, and Randy Kitchens; niece, Julie Kitchens; great nephews, Sean Kitchens and Robert Kitchens along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and step grandchildren.

Funeral service for Mr. Jones will be on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Wilkinson Wiseman Funeral Home with Phil Wilson officiating, visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. funeral time.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sean Kitchens, Robert Kitchens, Derek Gregory, Braiden Gregory, Nathaniel Gregory and Tyler Gregory.

Following the funeral service interment will be in Halltown Cemetery.

Carolyn Ann Curry, 77, of Cottontown, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.

Carol was born on January 13, 1949, to Woody and Margaret Elliott. She lived her first 18 years of life in Detroit, Michigan where she attended Osborne High School. She was a member of the basketball, tennis, and field hockey team where she was named All-City goalie. She then attended David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a member of the Lipscomb tennis team and served as the editor of the college yearbook. Carol was also a Bisonette, Lipscomb’s marching pep squad.

Carol was and still is the beloved wife to Don Curry for over 54 years. They met on a blind date while in college, married in 1972, and have been inseparable since. Together they built a life of unwavering love and devotion. She was a mother to their three children: Mark, Matt, and Melinda. One of her greatest joys was her role of “Nina” and “Nana” to her 8 grandchildren.

Carol was a teacher for Sumner County Schools for over 30 years. She taught 2nd grade at Oakmont Elementary School for the majority of her teaching career. Her classroom was a place where students felt valued, encouraged, and challenged to become their best. Many former students remember her not only as an outstanding teacher, but also as a caring mentor who made a lasting difference in their lives. In 2001, she was awarded Teacher of the Year by the State of Tennessee General Assembly.

She lived a life marked by faith, compassion, and a genuine love for others. Above all, Carol was a devoted Christian whose relationship with Jesus Christ guided every aspect of her life. She faithfully served at Portland Church of Christ through teaching, volunteering, and encouraging others with kindness and grace. She led bible class for toddlers for over 50 years, introducing countless children to Jesus. Carol is known for always having the perfect words of love and encouragement for the recipients of the thousands of cards she has written through the years.

Carol enjoyed attending Vanderbilt athletic events, cheering on the Portland Panthers and Beech Buccaneers, reading spy novels and thrillers, solving crossword puzzles, and playing for hours on end with her grandchildren. She loved watching anything in which her children and grandchildren participated. Throughout her life, she read the entire Bible countless times.

She is survived by her husband, Don Curry; her children Mark (Kelly) Curry, Matt (Rachel) Curry, and Melinda (Dan) Ray; her grandchildren Lincoln, Dani Beth, and Hunter Ray; Luke and Aiden Curry; and Jameson, Jude, and Jasper Curry.

She is preceded in death by her parents Woody and Margaret Elliott and her sister, Shirley (Charles) Chick.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, July 25 from 2:00-6:00pm at Portland Church of Christ. The family will receive visitors beginning at 12:00pm on Sunday until the service begins at 1:00pm, also at the Portland Church of Christ.

Barbara Gail Harris, age 88, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, passed away on July 20, 2026, at Highpoint Health–Sumner in Gallatin, Tennessee.

Barbara was born on January 28, 1938, in Portland, Tennessee, to the late Eugene Milton Webb and Avis Lenora Freeman Webb.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Billy L. Harris; her daughter, Teresa Lenora DiBiasio; her brother, Leslie E. Webb; and her sister-in-law, Jane E. Webb. Barbara and Leslie were blessed to live next door to one another for 62 years, sharing not only a lifetime of memories but also a special bond as neighbors.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Melissa Harris Hopper of Goodlettsville; her son, B. Lee Harris II (Scotti) of Gallatin; her grandchildren, Abigail Lee Duncan, Rachel (Lucas) Romoser, Hollee (Jonathan) Claxton, Hannah Hopper, James DiBiasio (Herron Warner), Suzanne (Adam) Istvan, and Elizabeth Errico; her sisters, Loretta Parker and Mary Elizabeth Plyer; her brothers, Arthur M. Webb (JoAnn) and John Webb (Linda); her sister-in-law, Kathryn Howse (Valter); twelve great-grandchildren; and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

At the age of five, Barbara moved with her family to Millersville, where the Webb family owned and operated a dairy farm. She graduated from Portland High School and later retired as a rural mail carrier with the Goodlettsville Post Office after 30 years of service.

Barbara loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Goodlettsville. Over the years, she taught children and youth, sang in the choir, and faithfully served through the Meals on Wheels ministry until her health no longer allowed her to continue. She also enjoyed serving on mission trips, including trips to Zuni, New Mexico, and Chile.

Barbara loved sewing and made many of the clothes her children and grandchildren wore while growing up. She enjoyed working in her flowers, traveling, and taking care of those she loved. She devoted herself to caring for her husband, daughter, mother, and many others who needed a helping hand. More than anything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to spoil them.

The family would like to thank everyone who cared for Barbara during her illness, especially Yvonne Walker, and the caregivers at Maple Cottage Transitions ALF and NHC Place Sumner. Your kindness and compassion meant so much to Barbara and to our family.

A graveside service will be held for family & friends at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Portland Memorial Gardens, with Bro. Lyle Larson officiating.

Ronnie Dale Ray, 78, of Gallatin, TN, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20th at home. Ronnie was born May 11th, 1948, to the late Emma Louise Lamberth Ray and Floyd Lee Ray.

Along with his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sue Caudill Ray, brother-in-law, William “Bill” Dye Caudill, Jr., and nephews William Patton Caudill and Charles Tyler Caudill.

Ronnie is survived by his sister, Emma Jean (Jackie) Ray Wright; brothers, Danny Ray and Terry (Susie) Ray; and sister-in-law, Charlotte (Bill) Suttle Caudill; along with several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Ronnie was a 1966 graduate of Portland High School and a proud veteran who served his country in Vietnam. During his service in the Army, he was awarded two Purple Hearts for valor and injuries sustained in combat. Following his honorable discharge, Ronnie began a long career with the Portland Post Office. He was well known throughout the Portland community for his kindness, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. After retirement, Ronnie could often be found operating heavy equipment, attending equipment auctions, or simply spending time
with family and friends.

Ronnie and Sue were happily married for 54 years. They enjoyed attending Vanderbilt and Portland athletic events, always supporting the teams and activities they loved. Ronnie was also a faithful member of Hartsville Pike Church of Christ and was always willing and happy to serve wherever he was needed. Ronnie will be remembered for his service, his humor, his kindness, and his devotion to his family and community.

Visitation will be at Wilkinson and Wiseman Funeral Home on Friday, July 24th from 11:00am to 2:00pm, with a military graveside service to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Alex Meadows will be officiating the service.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Monday, friend; Kory Cline, family member; and great-nephews: Alex Meadows, Max Meadows, Cooper Meadows, Will Caudill.

James “Jimmie” William Cook, age 98, of Portland, passed away on July 19th, 2026. Mr. Cook was born in Portland, Tn on November 12th, 1927 to the late Guy Wilson Cook & the late Clara Dorothy Gillihan-Cook.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Virginia Nell (Stout) Cook; sisters, Joyce (Cook) Bush & Jonelle (Cook) Carter; son in law, Tony Keith; great granddaughter, Jessica Keith.

Mr. Cook is survived by his children, Doug (Bonita) Cook of Portland; Nancy (Thomas) Smith of Portland, Ellen Keith of Portland, & Julie (John) Patterson of Portland; grandchildren, Derek Vandercook, Dana (Victor) Abreu, Rusty (Heather) Keith, Natalie (Gavin) Robertson; seven great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; brother, Ralph (Diana) Cook; sister, Brenda (Jimmy) Knight; special “Thank You” to Terri & Mike Graves.

Sheila Gale Moss Milliken, originally from Antioch, Tennessee, and later of Portland, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Sheila never met a stranger. She had a heart that was bigger than life itself and was always willing to help anyone in need. She loved fiercely, laughed often, and found joy in the simple things—whether it was spending time with her family, taking trips with those she loved, or making sure every stray cat or dog she came across had something to eat. Her compassion for both people and animals was one of the many things that made her so special.

More than anything, Sheila loved being a mom and a grandmother. Her daughter, Stacey, and her son, Kyle, were the center of her world, and her grandchildren, Harlee and Mylee, were truly her greatest joy. She cherished every moment she spent with them and loved watching them grow. She also adored her favorite cat, Asher Zayne, who held a very special place in her heart.

Sheila was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Runnels Moss; her nephew-in-law, David Reece Bledsoe; and her beloved nephew, Austin Wayne Dill, whom she loved as if he were one of her own.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Stacey Milliken (Micheal); her son, Kyle Milliken (Clara); her father, Malachi Virgil Moss; her brother, Darrin Moss; her sister, Ginny (Terry) Dill; her sister-in-law, Lori Moss; and her lifelong best friend, Renee Demonbreun, whose friendship was a treasured blessing throughout her life.

She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren, Harlee Young and Mylee Young, who were the light of her life.

She will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews, Jessica Nunnery (Trevin), Amanda Bledsoe (Ryder), and Dylan Moss (Andrea), along with numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and many dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her kindness.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing Sheila is no longer suffering. We imagine her running into the arms of those who went before her—especially her beloved nephew, Austin. Her love, generosity, laughter, and beautiful spirit will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.

Celebration of Life for Sheila will be at 4:00 pm on Saturday, August 1st 2026 at Generation Church with visitation starting at 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

In true Sheila fashion, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations of cat or dog food be made in her memory to benefit local shelter animals, a cause that was very close to her heart.

Sherry Denise Thornton-Pruitt, age 59, of Portland, passed away on July 14th, 2026 at Highpoint Health-Sumner in Gallatin, TN. She was born in Portland, TN on October 23rd, 1966 to the late Willard Alton Hobdy & the late Mary Agnes Gregory.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thornton-Pruitt was preceded in death by her son, Keith Pruitt; grandparents, Clara & Morris Gregory.

Mrs. Thornton-Pruitt is survived by her husband, Merlin Pruitt of Portland; children, Kendra (Chad) Pearson of Portland, Cherry Pruitt of Portland, Samantha (Jonathan) Burgett of Westmoreland, & Megan (Jacob) Smith of Portland; grandchildren, Kirstian, Mason, Kailyn, Emma, Hayden, Caroline, Karlee-Jo, & Magnolia; “Adopted Mama” Mama Patty; adopted children and grandchildren & all her fur babies.

Interment will be in Caldwell Cemetery in Westmoreland, TN.

Linda Arlene Simms, age 81, of Portland, passed away on July 9th, 2026 at Signature Healthcare in Portland. Mrs. Simms was born in Portland, TN on September 3rd, 1944 to the late Tommy Poole & the late Pearl White Poole.

Linda was a child of 12, she had three brothers and eight sisters. Linda was a lifelong resident of Portland where she was a stay-at-home wife & mother for many years until she had to work outside the home doing factory work & would retire from Western Plastics. Linda was a member of Portland General Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simms was preceded in death by her husband, of 47 years Billy “Bob” Jeff Simms; brothers, Doug, Talmadge, & Tom; sisters, Paulene, Geraldine, Mildred, Mary, Helen, & Dot; grandson, Adam Simms.

Linda is survived by her three sons, Mike (Teresa) Simms of Franklin, KY, Jeff Simms of Franklin, KY, & Brian (Beverly) Simms of Enterprise, AL; special daughter, Kaleena Moore of Portland, TN; six grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Pam Crawford of Portland & Sue Meadows of Portland; lifelong friend, Patricia Mooneyhan; several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Mary Frances Keen Halcomb, age 85, of Portland, passed away on July 9th, 2026 at her residence. Mrs. Halcomb was born in Westmoreland, TN on June 1st, 1941 to the late John Edgar Keen and the late Annie Bell Perdue Keen.

Mrs. Halcomb was a lifetime member of Fairfield United Methodist Church. She served as supervisor at the Gary Shirt Factory & Highland Apparel for many years.

Mrs. Halcomb is survived by her husband of 64 years, Guy Davis Halcomb; children, Tammy Lynn (John) Bingham & Tracy Neal (Darlene) Halcomb; grandchildren, Wesley Smith, Andrew (Cecilia) Smith, Trevor (Lauren) Smith, Bethany Halcomb, Heather (Matt) Sawyer, Cass Bradley; great grandchildren, Mason Smith, Cam Smith, Jaycob Wilcox, Bella Wilcox, Levi Wilcox, Brynn Smith, Oliver Sawyer, Blake Smith, & Tristan Arnold, Sky, Pumba, & several other grand dogs and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Jacqulyn “Jackie” Lou Denton, age 68, of Portland, passed away on July 5th, 2026 at Highpoint Health-Sumner in Gallatin, TN. Mrs. Denton was born in Madison, TN on May 29th, 1958 to the late William Turley & the late Gwendolyn Neal Scott.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Denton was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry C. Denton.

Mrs. Denton was employed with Sumner County Schools where she was known as “Nana” to many children in the Wise Kids program. She loved her job and her co-workers. Her greatest joy on this earth was her family. Jackie never met a stranger and to know her was to love her. She will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Denton is survived by her daughter, Michelle Maynard of Portland; son, Patrick (Kelly) Dalrymple of Cottontown; grandchildren, Justin (Brittany) Maynard of Portland, Bryce (Ashley) Dalrymple of Portland, & Xander Denton; great grandchildren, Violet Maynard, Marceline Maynard, & Audrey Dalrymple.

The family for Mrs. Denton has chosen cremation. A celebration of life has been scheduled for July 17, 2026, from 4pm – 7pm at Christ Covenant Fellowship located at 135 Cook Rd., Portland, TN 37148.
