Hal Pischer is a patient care coordinator who works directly with patients at the oncology and hematology clinic at Providence St. Vincent. Interacting with people didn’t always come easily for him. It took time, dedication and faith.
“It’s hard with autism,” he said. “I don’t normally read social cues very well.”
Hal admits school was difficult, until he experienced healthcare classes for the first time. Now, he’s continuing his education to become an even more supportive healthcare professional, while also hoping to inspire others, especially people with autism.
If you ask him what a good day at work looks like, Hal answers immediately.
“Every single day of my entire career,” he said. “Every day is a very good day, and the reason why is God has blessed me to come here and help people.”
Hal is one of 22,500 Providence caregivers serving our communities in Oregon.
