Sun Safety Tips for Kids
Sunny days are for fun - not sunburns! Keep your little ones protected with these simple tips:

• Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen (don’t forget ears, neck & feet!)
• Hats + sunglasses = extra protection
• Seek shade, especially between 10 AM – 4 PM
• Lightweight long sleeves can help block UV rays
• Keep the water flowing - hydration is key!

Even on cloudy days, those UV rays are still around - so stay protected and enjoy the sunshine safely!

Proper handwashing is the best way to prevent infections—scrub with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Basics: Wet, soap, scrub (including between fingers and under nails), rinse, and dry. Use a paper towel in public restrooms to avoid re-contamination.

When to wash: Before and after food prep, eating, and wound care; after restroom use, diaper changes, coughing/sneezing, touching animals or trash; and frequently when sick.

Hand sanitizer: Use ≥60% alcohol if soap isn’t available, but it’s less effective on dirty hands and doesn’t kill all germs.

Why it matters: Handwashing removes germs trapped in dirt and grease and helps reduce respiratory infections.

Also helps: Cover coughs, stay home when sick, keep vaccines up to date, clean high-touch surfaces, and avoid touching your face.

Did you know TCC offers nutrition services?

Our pediatric dietitian, Taylor Campista, RD, provides expert guidance to support healthy growth and development for children of all ages.

Healthy tips & tricks to try at home:

-Get kids involved in the kitchen with simple, hands-on tasks—they’re more likely to try foods they help prepare!
-Encourage sensory experiences like gardening or U-pick outings to spark interest in new foods.
-Avoid making separate meals; offer at least one familiar option and don’t pressure them to try new foods.
-Remember: picky eating (ages 2–5) is normal. It can take 15+ exposures before kids try something new—focus on offering, not forcing!
