Gravity is always working on us: keeping us grounded, encouraging us to stand tall and strong against its downward pressure. This weekend I had a chance to be completely vulnerable to gravity: to feel it as I "flew" downward. I expected an incredibly forceful experience. The press of gravity as we flew steeply upwards in a small plane, the loud rush of wind as we hurtled downward, the feeling of being uplifted when the parachute deployed, and a hard landing.
What I actually experienced was the feeling of weightlessness, of feeling the different layers of atmosphere, and an incredible sense of gratitude. To get the momentary feeling of soaring through the sky like a bird was one of the most beautiful experiences I have had on this earth. And the landing was so graceful: feeling the brush of grass under me as we set back down on earth.
