Social safety net programs ARE public health programs, and limiting access to food and housing won't make our communities safer or healthier. As a health care providers, I felt obliged to take action.
Here's what I wrote:
"As a health care provider with experience working with homeless and under-served populations, I know first hand how programs such as SNAP and Section 8 housing can make a difference in providing the basic, fundamental human needs of food and shelter. By providing assistance to fulfill these basic needs, my patients are able to focus on raising their children, joining or staying in the work force, and contributing to their communities.
The new "public charge" rule will significant undermine the public health benefits that these programs offer and WILL NOT make our communities safer or healthier. I am strongly opposed to the Trump Administrations proposal and will be a vocal advocate to oppose these proposals."

Say NO to the Trump administration's new attack on immigrant families! Submit your comment to the Department of Homeland Security NOW! (Don’t worry...we make it super easy for you with sample talking points you can copy and paste)

I have been interested and involved in animal rehabilitation since my second year of physical therapy school. I became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist in 2009 through the Canine Rehab Institute & have worked as a PT in an animal rehab clinic as well as provided private consultations. I was invited to provide manual therapy to dogs & humans at the 42nd American Spaniel Club National Specialty Show in July! Here are some pictures for my promo materials for the show!

Here is the NY Times piece!

My doctor told me that feeling pain during recovery from surgery is normal. Why was I so resistant?

Here is some food for thought when it comes to our standard of care post-operatively:
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/04/180416145456.htm

It reminds me of an op-ed piece I read in the NY Times a couple months back written by a woman who underwent a hysterectomy in Germany. Instead of being prescribed Vicodin, she was told to rest, drink tea, and listen to her body.

I wholeheartedly agree that there is a place for all modes of pain relief. But pain relief does not always directly correlate to healing and recovery.

Giving opioids to animals to quell pain after surgery prolongs pain for three weeks and primes specialized immune cells in the spinal cord to be more reactive to pain, according to a new study. The authors say the paradoxical findings could add a new wrinkle to the conversation about the national op...
