Celebrate with us -- help shape the next 100 years of service

In 1926, a small group of Lutheran women saw neighbors in need and chose to act. Their belief—that every person deserves care, dignity, and hope—became the foundation of LCSNW.

A century later, that calling is still urgent. Families are rebuilding after crisis. Newcomers are seeking safety and belonging. Communities are navigating rising mental‑health needs. Your support helps us meet these challenges with the same courage and compassion that started it all.

This celebration isn’t just about looking back. It’s about fueling what comes next.

Join us as we honor our Centennial Award recipient, Salah Ansary, whose leadership has strengthened the very communities we serve—and as we rally support for the work ahead. Your presence, your voice, and your generosity directly expand access to health, justice, and hope across the Northwest.

When people receive support in the absence of judgment, growth becomes possible. That mentality is what drives us here at LCSNW. And it’s at the heart of the support we provide youth who are referred to us as an alternative to consequences within Multnomah County’s juvenile justice system.

It comes down to a simple question: What happens when a young person feels truly heard?

For more than six years, Jaime Sanchez Estrada has helped foster the kind of safe, judgment-free space where growth can begin. Through LCSNW's restorative justice services, he offers support, encouragement, and space for youth to be heard without judgment.

What a great day reconnecting as a district! ❤️
Last Thursday, about 120 of us staff from across our nine locations in the Portland-metro area and a unit of our team in Tacoma, Washington, came together at the University of Oregon’s Portland campus for our annual LCSNW district staff retreat.

It was a day packed with learning, reflection, and connection—featuring sessions on our shared language and community impact, along with breakout activities such as restorative yoga, strengthening our resiliency, along with a few opportunities for professional development as well.

We also took time to celebrate a major milestone—100 years of serving the Portland community—with cake and shared gratitude.

Moments like these remind us how strong we are when we come together. Thank you to everyone who made the day so meaningful!

📸 Take a look at a few highlights from our day.

Saturday, LCSNW staff joined community members to walk in support of refugees and immigrants in honor of World Refugee Day.

This annual event is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of the communities we serve—and the importance of standing together in support and welcome.

We were proud to stand alongside partners and leaders, including U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, to recognize this important day. 💙🌍

A recent episode of Art Beat on OPB features one of our clients, Vu Pham, as well as one of our program managers, Theresa Huggins. Theresa manages our restorative justice practice.

Vu's story involves the loss of his mother not long after both arrived in Portland decades ago as refugees fleeing Vietnam.

The episode beautifully captures some of Vu's experience healing from such a devastating loss, in which our services assist.

Vu's story begins about 10 minutes into the episode. Watch it here:
