Evolution is proud to support Post 58’s mission of helping young people build confidence, resilience, and leadership through life-changing outdoor experiences.
And this summer, that mission took 14 Portland-area students all the way to 18,871 feet in the Peruvian Andes.
Before they left, Evolution Healthcare & Fitness donated altitude training sessions to help prepare the group for the demands of the expedition. From near sea level in Portland, they went on to hike at 15,000 feet, cross alpine passes above 16,000 feet, and ultimately climb Nevado Pisco.
Their trip leaders told us the students handled the elevation remarkably well, and that repeated training in Evolution’s hypoxic environment helped give them both physiological preparation and confidence in what it feels like to work hard when oxygen is limited.
But this partnership was about much more than altitude training.
Post 58 creates challenging, accessible outdoor experiences for Portland-area youth, helping students build independence, responsibility, teamwork, resilience, and leadership outside the classroom.
For many young people, an expedition like this might otherwise feel completely out of reach. Post 58 works to keep these experiences affordable and accessible, while volunteer adult advisors create opportunities for students to stretch themselves, support one another, and discover just how capable they are.
That mission deeply aligns with what we believe at Evolution.
Movement builds strength. The outdoors builds perspective. And doing hard things, with the right support, can change the way someone sees themselves.
Our altitude room helped prepare their bodies for thin air.
Post 58 helped create the opportunity for them to stand on top of a mountain they may once never have imagined reaching.
We are incredibly proud to support Post 58, proud of these students, and grateful to play even a small role in helping make experiences like this possible. 🫶⛰️
