We’re thrilled to have welcomed pediatric dermatologist Dr. Melanie Miller to our faculty earlier this year! Dr. Miller joins OHSU after finishing her dermatology residency at USC and her peds derm fellowship at UCSF. She will specialize in caring for kids with skin disorders and brings a relationship-forward approach to meet not only her patients but her patient's family needs.

A California girl, Dr. Miller is excited to call the PNW her new home and experience all the nature and food it has to offer (searching for her new favorite pastry spot in particular). In her free time she enjoys running, biking and water activities — though as a new mom most of her free time is spent chasing after her son.

We hope you all get a chance to meet and welcome Melanie to OHSU!

Meet new resident Shirley Parraga, MD 👋:My name is Shirley Parraga and I’m thrilled to be joining the Department of Dermatology at OHSU. I’m initially from Ecuador, but have spent most of my life in Charlotte, NC. I’ve completed the majority of my medical training in North and South Carolina, including a dedicated research year focused on inflammatory skin disorders and novel treatment approaches, which helped solidify my interests in dermatology.

Outside of medicine, I’m always excited to explore this great city. I love trying new restaurants, going wine tasting, taking painting classes, and checking out local art/music shows. I also love working out and am always on the lookout for hot Pilates classes nearby. Family is incredibly important to me, and I’m very close with my parents and sister— they’re my biggest supporters. I can’t wait to meet my new OHSU dermatology family and start this next chapter! 🫶

Earlier this year we were privileged to welcome Dr. Victoria Werth (Penn Medicine) as the 2026 Walter C. Lobitz Visiting Professor and Lecturer. Dr. Werth's pioneering work in autoimmune skin diseases was on full display as she met with our department trainees and faculty and was capped through her keynote lecture on dermatomyositis.

It was a fantastic event full of scholarly engagement and truly celebrated the Lobitz legacy -- serving as a reminder of our shared responsibility to push dermatology forward through collaboration, innovation and mentorship 🙌.

Meet our Mohs Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology Fellow for '26/'27, Vixey Silva, D.O. 👋:
My name is Vixey Silva, and I am excited to be joining OHSU as this year's Mohs Micrographic Surgery fellow. I grew up in Michigan before moving to Florida to complete my dermatology residency. I love procedural dermatology and the opportunity to make an immediate impact on patients' lives.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my husband, Larry, and our dog, Kilo. I enjoy running, hiking, camping, and exploring new places. Since moving to Portland, I've loved discovering everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer, including its' incredible hiking trails and amazing food scene. I'm excited to get to know everyone and be part of the OHSU community!

Meet new resident Michael Esson, MD 👋:My name is Michael Esson and I'm excited to be in the Portland area. I was born and raised in Ghana and have lived mainly in Milwaukee, Wisconsin since being in the U.S. My interests are as vast as there are trees in Oregon, but I will list a few. Soccer, writing poems, yoga and meditation, hiking, art galleries, watching hummingbirds, road trips and the list goes on and on. I'm excited to learn and explore the Portland trails!

Meet new resident Bebe Badiei, MD 👋: My name is Bebe Badiei and I am so excited to be joining OHSU! I was born and raised in Maryland and completed my training in Baltimore City. My path to dermatology was shaped by a research fellowship studying hidradenitis suppurativa and its environmental drivers, and I'm looking forward to learning more about the role of socioeconomics in dermatology.

I moved to Portland with my husband, CJ, and we are really enjoying exploring the city, the gorge, and the surrounding mountains. Outside of medicine, I enjoy playing the kamancheh (an ancient persian instrument), hiking, trying new restaurants, and I'm currently scoping out a new pottery studio to join.

I'm looking forward to working with you all and having a lot of fun along the way!
