Bags and bags of heavy groceries hung from my arms. I had told my daughter, "Let's leave the cart here and try to bring all the groceries to our car without it!" She agreed and we lumbered to the minivan. I approached the trunk shifting the weight of the bags to free my index finger to press the button to release the trunk. Oof, couldn't quite get it. Tried for the pinky. Nope. For some reason, I didn't want to put my groceries down to open the door. I poked out a knuckle aiming for the button when my grip slipped and my entire load fell to the ground, cans of peaches rolling across the parking lot. My daughter looked at me alarmed. The absurdity of the situation hit me and I burst into laughter. My sweet daughter giggled while chasing down the apples and canned corn.

Do you ever find yourself having a difficult time putting down what you need to in order to open a door? Maybe it is a relationship, or a job, or a way of thinking, or even your own pain. In a moment of ego or fear we refuse to put down the heavy thing we have been carrying even when the door is right there inviting us through to something new and better.

Are you at a threshold right now and having a difficult time opening the door because you are carrying too much? What would it feel like to lay these things down? What might be on the other side of the door?
