Another important step forward for salivary diagnostics.

A recent article highlighted research published in the British Journal of Cancer confirmed that saliva-based biomarkers may help connect oral precancerous conditions with clinical outcomes.

Oral potentially malignant disorders are difficult to monitor since not every lesion progresses on to oral cancer, so identifying which patients may be at higher risk is critically important.

What makes this study especially meaningful is the use of saliva — a non-invasive, accessible, and patient-friendly biofluid — to help evaluate biological signals associated with disease progression.

The researchers found that certain inflammatory cytokines in saliva, particularly the IL-6/IL-1Ra ratio, showed promise as biomarkers for predicting oral cancer risk in patients with oral potentially malignant disorders.

This is exactly why saliva continues to gain recognition in healthcare and research.

It is not just easier to collect.
It may also provide valuable insight into what is happening biologically — in real time, and in a way that could support earlier detection, better monitoring, and more personalized care.

At OASIS, we believe saliva has an important role to play in the future of diagnostics, especially as research continues to show its value across oral health, systemic health, cancer detection, and patient monitoring.

Saliva is no longer being viewed as a secondary sample type.
It is becoming a meaningful window into health.

A very recent and interesting Medscape article asks an important question: Are saliva and urine rheumatology’s next biomarker frontier?

It is encouraging to see saliva being discussed in the context of rheumatology, including areas such as Sjögren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus. The article highlights growing interest in non-invasive sample types that may provide clinically relevant biomarker information beyond traditional blood-based testing.

This matters because many chronic and autoimmune conditions require ongoing monitoring. For patients, that often means repeated blood draws, clinic visits, and added discomfort. Saliva offers a different path — one that is simple, non-invasive, and easier to collect.

At OASIS, we have long believed that saliva is more than a convenient sample. It is a powerful biofluid with the potential to expand access to meaningful health insights across many areas of medicine.

The future of diagnostics is not about replacing every existing method. It is about giving clinicians and researchers better, more practical tools — and giving patients a less invasive way to participate in their own care.

Saliva continues to prove that it belongs in the conversation.

Why can someone feel like their hormones are “off” even when their bloodwork comes back “normal”?

This is an important question — and one that comes up often in hormone health.

In this YouTube video, Dr. Eldred Taylor explains why traditional blood testing may not always tell the full story when it comes to certain hormones, especially when people are still experiencing symptoms. The video focuses on why saliva testing is MORE valuable as levels in saliva reflect the free, biologically active fraction of certain steroid hormones — the portion that is more directly available to tissues.

That distinction matters.

Blood testing is important and has its place. But for hormones such as cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA, saliva may offer a more practical and patient-friendly way to understand hormone activity — especially when timing, symptoms, and daily hormone patterns are important.

Saliva collection is also non-invasive, simple, and can often be done from home, making it easier to collect samples at the right time without the added stress of a blood draw.

At OASIS, we believe saliva is more than just an alternative sample type. It is a powerful biofluid that can help expand access to meaningful health insights.

This video is worth watching if you want a clear explanation of why saliva testing continues to gain attention in hormone health.

A new Scientific Reports publication adds to the growing evidence that saliva has meaningful potential as a non-invasive specimen for disease monitoring – in this case chronic kidney disease monitoring.

While this study did not evaluate or apply any of the Oasis saliva collection kits, it is still an important publication for the broader field of salivary diagnostics.

The researchers compared different saliva collection methods and evaluated key biomarkers associated with kidney function and mineral metabolism, including creatinine, urea, calcium, and parathyroid hormone (PTH).

The findings were especially encouraging for salivary creatinine and urea, which showed stronger alignment with serum levels and potential value for non-invasive CKD monitoring. Calcium and PTH were also evaluated, though the study suggests further validation is still needed before broader clinical application of these two specific biomarkers.

This is exactly why saliva continues to gain recognition as a valuable biofluid. It is easy to collect, non-invasive, and may support more accessible monitoring approaches for chronic conditions like kidney disease.

As more research emerges, the message becomes clearer: saliva is not just about oral health. It has the potential to help us better understand and monitor systemic health as well.

I’m excited to see new data emerge confirming that Saliva is no longer just being viewed as a specimen type, but more importantly — it is becoming a platform for the future of healthcare development.

A recent article highlights how saliva-based diagnostics could help transform healthcare by making testing more convenient, non-invasive, and accessible for patients. From infectious disease detection and genetic testing to hormone monitoring, cancer screening, and preventive health, saliva continues to demonstrate its potential across a wide range of applications.

One of the most important advantages is patient comfort. Saliva collection does not require needles and can often be done quickly, making it especially valuable for children, older adults, patients managing chronic conditions, and anyone who needs repeated testing.

The article also points to the role of modern technologies such as PCR, next-generation sequencing, biosensors, and genomic analysis in helping unlock more information from saliva samples. These advancements are helping move saliva diagnostics from research settings into broader healthcare use.

At Oasis Diagnostics, we are encouraged to see continued recognition of saliva as a powerful, non-invasive biofluid for early detection, monitoring, and personalized healthcare.

The future of healthcare is moving toward solutions that are easier for patients, more practical for providers, and more scalable for communities — and saliva is clearly part of that future.

Saliva continues to show promise far beyond oral health.

A new article published in The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal explores the feasibility of using saliva as a non-invasive approach for monitoring the therapeutic posaconazole in immunocompromised children.

Posaconazole is an important antifungal medication used in high-risk pediatric patients, where careful monitoring is essential. Traditionally, this type of monitoring relies on blood samples, which can be stressful, uncomfortable, and difficult to repeat, especially in children.

This is why saliva is so exciting.

As a non-invasive biofluid, saliva has the potential to make therapeutic monitoring easier, more patient-friendly, and more practical in clinical settings. While further validation is still needed, studies like this continue to support the growing role of saliva in precision medicine, infectious disease care, and pediatric health.

At Oasis Diagnostics, we are encouraged to see saliva being recognized not only for diagnostics, but also for monitoring applications that may help improve patient care.

More and more people - patients and the general public - are starting to understand something many in the healthcare field have been emphasizing for years, i.e. that the mouth is connected to the rest of the body.

According to Delta Dental’s 2026 report, awareness of the oral-systemic link has reached a record high, with 9 out of 10 adults recognizing the connection between oral health and overall health.

That is encouraging to see.

When people understand that oral health is connected to conditions such as diabetes, heart health, dementia, and overall wellness, it opens the door to better prevention, earlier conversations, and more connected care.

This is also where saliva becomes especially important.

Saliva is easy to collect, non-invasive, and full of valuable information that can help support research, screening, and future diagnostic applications.

As awareness grows, so does the opportunity to bring oral health, systemic health, and salivary diagnostics closer together.

The future of care is more connected than ever.

Stress is not just emotional — it is biological, measurable, and deeply connected to oral and systemic health.

A recent article in Dental Economics highlights the important role of cortisol in dental care, including its connection to periodontal inflammation, wound healing, pain perception, and patient behavior.

This is a meaningful reminder that the mouth can reflect much more than oral health alone.

Cortisol, often called the “stress hormone,” is one of the most widely studied biomarkers of stress. As dentistry continues to move toward more personalized and preventive care, understanding stress biology may help clinicians better support treatment planning, healing, and long-term patient outcomes.

It also reinforces the value of saliva as a powerful, non-invasive biofluid.

Saliva-based testing offers a simple and patient-friendly way to collect biological information that may help connect oral health, systemic health, and overall wellness. As research continues to expand, saliva will play an increasingly important role in how we understand stress, inflammation, disease risk, and patient-centered care.

At Oasis Diagnostics, we believe the future of diagnostics will be practical, accessible, and built around sample types that make testing easier for both patients and providers.

Genetic testing continues to reshape how we think about cancer treatment, survivorship, and long-term care.

A recent article in Inside Precision Medicine highlights the impact of current genetic testing on cancer survivor treatment, including how genetic information can help guide treatment decisions, inform risk assessment, and support care planning for patients and their families.

Importantly, this work is based upon the use of a home-based saliva test — a simple, non-invasive approach that can make genetic testing more accessible to cancer survivors. This is especially meaningful when genetic results have the potential to influence treatment decisions, identify inherited cancer-related variants, and ultimately impact survival and long-term outcomes.

This is an important reminder that cancer care does not end at diagnosis or treatment. Genetic insights can remain highly relevant years later, especially as testing guidelines continue to evolve and more people become eligible for testing.

As the role of genomics continues to grow in oncology, practical collection methods will be increasingly important for supporting broader participation, easier sample collection, and more personalized care.
