The old house is down, and Alyssa Daye Gardens is on its way! 🏗️🌱

Construction is officially underway next door to The Peer Company’s Recovery Campus on SE Powell Boulevard. Alyssa Daye Gardens will provide 31 permanent supportive homes for families in recovery, with access to voluntary peer support right next door.

We’re grateful to Walsh Construction for their hard work bringing these homes to life.

Every day of progress brings us closer to welcoming 31 families home! 💚

An evening of gratitude with 4D Recovery!

Last month, members of The Peer Company team joined our partners at 4D Recovery for their Gratitude Night Gala: Shannon Cole (EVOLVE Director), Charity Biggs (Program Manager), Melissa Dennis (Washington County Juvenile PSS), and members of the Juvenile Drug Treatment Court team.

Melissa shared what the night meant to her:

“Seeing the impact of recovery and witnessing the strength of individuals and families on their journeys reinforced why this work matters so deeply... Nights like this remind us that recovery is about more than overcoming addiction. It’s about restoring hope, rebuilding lives, and creating a future filled with possibility.”

Thank you, 4D Recovery, for the invitation and for the work you do alongside us every day!

Today is World Mental Health Day💚

Did you know that 1 in 5 U.S. adults lives with mental challenges? That means you probably know someone in your family, your workplace, or your neighborhood living with mental illness.

At The Peer Company, we know that no one should have to navigate mental health challenges alone.

Our Peer Support Specialists draw on their own lived experience to offer connection, understanding, and hope, because sometimes the most powerful support comes from someone who truly gets it.

Today, we officially broke ground on Alyssa Daye Gardens!

This afternoon, at The Peer Company’s Recovery Campus, we gathered with our funders, partners, staff, community and elected officials to break ground on 31 units of Permanent Supportive Housing for families in Southeast Portland.

Thank you to our guest speakers Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson, Commissioner Julia Brim-Edwards, Metro Councilor Duncan Hwang, Roberto Franco with OHCS, and Representatives for Senator Wyden and Senator Merkley.

Special thank you to our Board President, Dave Otte, for emceeing the event and being such a great partner.

As well as Jerrod Murray, Tribal Member from Rocky Boy M***ana and Executive Director of Painted Horse Recovery, for the blessing of our land where these homes will be built and our ceremony today.

These homes are named for Alyssa Daye Marsh, the oldest of five children, a devoted aunt, a fierce cheerleader, and someone who made room in her heart for absolutely everyone. She believed her family could recover and held onto that belief even when the way forward was hard to see.

Alyssa passed in September 2021 at just 34 years old.

Today, we’re honored to say her name becomes a home.

Alyssa Daye Gardens will sit right next to our Recovery Campus. Where families will have a stable place to rest, establish routines, and build beyond the next crisis. Where children will know where they will sleep at night. Where parents will have room to breathe and take the next step. Where peer support is a neighbor to the everyday work of family life.

In the words of Emily Nelson, Alyssa’s younger sister and Director of The Peer Company’s Oregon Peer Training & Innovation Center:

“As we break ground today, we carry that spirit forward: a belief in people, a place to call home for families, and room for hope to take root.”

Alyssa loved to sparkle. She knew how to shine!

Today, her light takes root in something that will hold other families’ futures for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible! Our partners, contractors, supporters, staff, elected officials, and community. We are honored to build this together.

Your support helped remind folks that they’re not alone and that they can overcome the fear, doubt and uncertainty they faced on Wednesday – and what they may face throughout their lives.

Thank you to NE Creperie for serving up the best crepes and paninis for our team and ground party crowd!

Truly, thank you to everyone who showed up and helped at this event. The team could not be more grateful. Thank you for celebrating with us this Recovery Month and showing up for families and recovery!

Exciting announcement: Multnomah County Chair, Jessica Vega Pederson, will be rappelling TOMORROW for Recovery Rush!

From all of us at The Peer Company, we’re honored the Chair will be joining us for an exciting event to cap off the end of Recovery Month.

Here’s what Chair Vega Pederson has to say about participating: “I believe that recovery is possible for everyone and every recovery story matters. I’m celebrating National Recovery Month by recognizing those who make recovery possible. During my time as Multnomah County Chair, I’ve seen the investments we’ve made in the work of peers grow substantially, like in the Peer Company through the downtown Behavioral Health Resource Center, and have seen the impacts and benefits of their work grow in the community as well. I’m here today to uplift the message that there are people who are experts because they’ve been there too, and they are committed to helping others find their own path to recovery.”

Thank you, Chair Vega Pederson, for uplifting the message of recovery!

Cheer on Chair Vega Pederson and 45 other rappellers from our ground party! We’re shutting down part of the street to celebrate our rappellers, enjoy good music, eat sweet crepes, and celebrate Recovery Month with our community partners.
