This November, Oregon voters will decide the race for governor, half of the state's legislature, and members of Congress who shape decisions made in DC.

People with disabilities have the same right as every other American to cast a private, independent ballot. Yet people with disabilities vote at lower rates than the rest of the population — often because of barriers that have nothing to do with whether they want to participate.

If you're not registered, or you've moved recently, today's the day to check and fix that. And if you need help to register, that's okay. Ask for it.

Every vote — and every voter — counts.

September is Awareness Month! Did you know that high school students with disabilities are often left out of s*x education (also called s*x ed) in schools? A study from 2021 showed that teens with disabilities are s*xually active, and lowering the risk of s*xual abuse is an important goal. We need to offer more for this group to support safety and healthy choices.

The reason for this study was to learn about the s*xual experiences of teens with and without disabilities.

September 6-12, 2026, marks National

Research shows that the risk of su***de is higher for teens identifying as both LGB (le***an, gay or bis*xual) and having a disability than for either identity by itself. It is critical to make the spaces where teens live, learn, and interact with others safe and inclusive.

Being both LGB and disabled increases the risk of suicidal ideation beyond either identity by itself.
