Food is connected to family, culture, travel, traditions, celebrations, and belonging—and during a restrictive phase like AIP Elimination, it can be hard to imagine what those parts of life might look like in the future.

In Episode 094 of The Autoimmune Wellness Podcast, I’m joined by Imei Hsu for a thoughtful conversation about this part of the autoimmune journey. Imei is a registered nurse, licensed mental health counselor, National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach, and Autoimmune Protocol Certified Coach who has been navigating celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis for more than a decade.

We talk about the grief that can accompany dietary changes, the long game of reintroductions, reconnecting with cultural foods, navigating restaurants and travel, and adapting family traditions in ways that work for your health.

Imei also shares her concept of being a “Food Nomad”—recognizing that your relationship with food doesn’t necessarily return to exactly what it was before autoimmune disease, but can continue to evolve and expand over time.

For anyone who is early in AIP and wondering, “Is eating always going to be this hard?”, I think you’ll appreciate Imei’s perspective on what life can look like further down the road.

Comment “BOOK” and I’ll send you the link to pick up your copy! 📖

It has been amazing hearing from so many of you who have been putting The New Autoimmune Protocol into practice and having success with AIP this summer. And seeing your reviews come in has been such a fun part of the book launch!

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share your experience with the book. I love hearing how you’re using the updated protocol and what you’re learning about your own health along the way.

If you have a copy and haven’t left a review yet, I’d be so grateful if you would. Reviews help other people discover the book, understand what it offers, and decide if it might be a helpful resource for their own AIP journey.

And if you still need a copy, comment “BOOK” and I’ll send you the link!

What happens when adults with rheumatoid arthritis follow the Autoimmune Protocol for 12 weeks? Swipe to find out!

This pilot feasibility study found improvements in rheumatoid arthritis disease activity, overall symptom burden, fatigue, sleep, pain, and quality of life after participants followed the Autoimmune Protocol.

Researchers also found that participants were able to implement the diet without substantial increases in cost or difficulty, supporting its feasibility as a dietary intervention.

The findings suggest that dietary modification may be a valuable adjunct to conventional care for some people with rheumatoid arthritis, but larger controlled trials are needed to confirm these results.

Fiber isn’t just about digestion.

Most of us have heard that fiber is important, but few people realize why. As humans, we can’t digest fiber ourselves—it becomes food for the microbes living in our gut. In return, they produce compounds that help support immune function, reduce inflammation, and benefit nearly every system in the body.

The problem? About 96% of people aren’t getting enough fiber, creating what researchers call the “fiber gap.”

In this episode of The , I’m joined by to discuss what fiber actually is, how it supports the gut microbiome, why it matters for autoimmune health, and practical ways to increase your intake—even if you have a sensitive digestive system.

If you’ve ever wondered where fiber fits into an autoimmune-friendly diet, this episode is a great place to start.

Comment “HAIR” and I’ll send you the episode link to your DMs! 💇‍♀️

Hair loss is one of the most common symptoms people experience with autoimmune disease—but it’s also one of the most misunderstood.

In this episode of , I’m joined by to unpack the many different reasons hair loss can happen and why identifying the type of hair loss is such an important first step.

We discuss:
• Alopecia areata
• Stress-related hair shedding (telogen effluvium)
• Thyroid-related hair loss
• Hormonal hair loss
• Hair loss associated with autoimmune disease and inflammation

Understanding why you’re losing your hair can help guide the next steps, whether that’s working with your healthcare team, addressing nutrient deficiencies, managing inflammation, or supporting your overall health.

If you’ve ever wondered why hair loss happens with autoimmune disease, I think you’ll find this conversation incredibly helpful.

What happens when women with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis follow the Autoimmune Protocol for 10 weeks? Swipe to find out!

This pilot study found significant improvements in symptom burden, quality of life, and inflammation in women with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis—even though thyroid hormone levels and antibodies remained stable.

The findings suggest that dietary modification may help address symptoms that often persist despite standard medical treatment and well-managed thyroid hormone levels.
