Muscle and joint pain are not “just aging.”

A major systematic review of more than 93,000 women found that muscle and joint pain increase significantly during perimenopause and menopause, commonly affecting the hips, knees, shoulders, and overall daily function. This is not weakness or failure. It is biology changing. And it often starts much earlier than we are told. Perimenopause can begin as early as age 35.

This is exactly why we created SHIFT Happens.

March 13–15, 2026
📍 Salishan Coastal Resort, Oregon

At the SHIFT Happens Conference, women will finally get clear, evidence-based education about what is actually happening in their bodies during midlife. You will learn how hormonal changes affect bones, joints, muscle, sleep, energy, metabolism, and body composition, and why so many symptoms are overlooked or dismissed.

We are honored to have best-selling author, longevity expert, and orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Vonda Wright as our keynote speaker, sharing cutting-edge insights on longevity, strength, and aging with power.

I will also be speaking about why preserving your joints is foundational to healthspan, independence, and performance as we age, and what women can do now to protect their joints long before surgery is ever needed.

This is not a passive conference. You will leave with actionable tools, practical strategies, and the knowledge to advocate for yourself in medical appointments, fitness settings, and daily life.

Midlife is not a decline.
It is a decision point.

Hey friends!

I’m so honored to share that I’ll be joining an incredible group of women physicians from multiple fields to co-host a screening of the new documentary The M Factor on Thursday November 21. This film is truly groundbreaking, diving into menopause, how women in this phase have traditionally been treated, and how the healthcare field is starting to break the stereotypes. It’s all about empowering women in midlife, and it’s a conversation I believe needs to be louder than ever.

We’d love for you to join us! After the screening, there’ll be a lively Q&A session with our panel of experts, including Dr. Andrea Matsumura, a sleep specialist, Dr. Leslie Sanchez Gottler, a women’s weight loss expert, Dr. Aoife O’Sullivan, a hormone specialist, and me—I’ll be sharing insights on musculoskeletal health and the impact of menopause on bones and joints.

Seats are limited, so be sure to sign up using the link below. Hope to see you there for what’s sure to be an eye-opening evening.

I feel privileged to be recognized for the sixth year in a row as one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in Portland, Oregon. I sincerely appreciate my fellow medical professionals, as there is no higher accolade than being acknowledged by those I collaborate with daily. My gratitude also goes to Portland Monthly for their efforts in identifying and publicizing the physicians deemed most reliable by their peers in the medical community.

Ultimately, the cornerstone of my work is the bond I share with my patients. Regardless of whether the treatment is straightforward or highly intricate, or anywhere in between, my primary aim is to help my patients return to their passions.
