We're happy to be collaborating with to bring you a fun tour filled with bird watching, visiting the sites of pioneering environmentalists & sharing stories that led to many of Oregon's environmental protections that we know today.
We will all meet at the office located at 300 S Taylors Ferry Rd., Portland, OR, 97219 at 10am and peruse from there.
The ground is uneven in parts of the cemetery, we will have water to offer & feel free to bring binoculars if you have them.
We hope to see you there! 🐦‍⬛✨️🦅

✨From the River View archives✨ This is a photograph of the cemetery’s lower entrance taken around 1890, eight years after the cemetery’s founding in 1882. Originally printed in an 1892 souvenir booklet entitled “Glimpses of Portland, Oregon and Vicinity,” this image shows the original Gothic-inspired cottage designed by River View resident and prominent Portland architect of the time, Warren Heywood Williams.

In 1913, the cemetery cottage was replaced by the Georgian Revival superintendent’s house designed by Ellis F. Lawrence, which now serves as the offices of our funeral home.

Honoring River View resident Lola G. Baldwin who On April 1st, 1908, was sworn in as the nation’s first female police officer. She became involved with the Travelers Aid Society in 1905, a human services network that particularly fought for the safety of single, vulnerable, female travelers.  She did incredible work to improve conditions so that women and young girls could experience the same safety and opportunities of men at the time. Nicknamed, “The Municipal Mother,” she demonstrated to the country that women can make incredibly effective police officers.
