Thrive with Chronic Pain

Thrive with Chronic Pain I share pain management tools and resources for coping with chronic pain. May these posts help lighten your chronic pain days.

Living with trigeminal neuralgia, migraines & rheumatoid arthritis has taught me to look for delights in the everyday.

This is a great article from The Good News Network. I loved the understanding of how art can soothe and quiet mental health issues. It also has the same effect on chronic pain since we know that distraction is the best analgesic. "Like embroidery or knitting, this steady rhythm offers a therapeutic calm, and helps interrupt negative thought patterns, quieting the internal noise of trauma and stress while building confidence.”

When we dive deep into making art, whether it’s knitting, crocheting, needlepoint felting, painting, writing, gardening, or preparing a beautiful meal, we remove our thoughts from our bodies and repetitive thoughts. Just like the 72-year-old architect-turned-artist said, “It gives people a holiday from their head.”

May you enjoy a break from your thoughts and pain today.

The Facial Pain Association’s description of Trigeminal Neuralgia: “What does TN pain feel like?
TN episodes may start as short, mild attacks and progress and cause longer, more-frequent bouts of searing pain. TN pain is described as sudden and intense, with patient ratings of 9 out of 10, or more, although less severe attacks can occur. TN pain is often describes as stabbing, shooting, sharp, piercing or electrical in nature. Pain can occur almost anywhere between the jaw and forehead, including inside the mouth. This pain can include facial twitching (hence, the term ‘tic’).

A large proportion of people have a constant aching pain between attacks; attacks might last for longer that two minutes. Some people have eye tearing on the same side of the face. Mild sensory changes are also reported. Many people report that their TN attacks become more intense and frequent over time, sometimes with pain-free periods in between. “
May they find a cure in the future for this rare disease.💜💜🙏

So many beautiful yarn bowls on ETSY & Amazon. Yet, I don’t want to spend the $$$ on a bowl just for yarn. What to do? On this low energy day, I looked through the recycling bin, pulled out a large plastic container, cut a hole in the top (after washing it), covered the sharp edges with painter’s tape, and viola! It works. My painful head is greatly amused by its distressed appearance. Now to find some stickers to make it delightful. pain
