The Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) for the eastern half of Rockingham County, NH. Proudly serving 24 towns with offices in Exeter and Portsmouth.

Depending on the clinical diagnosis, severity of impairment, and age of the client, available services range from 24-hour emergency services to individual and group therapy, couples and family therapy, substance use disorder treatment, psychiatric services, psychological and neurological assessment and testing, to home and community-based services, residential care, case management, and employment

support services. All of our services are designed to help client manage their symptoms so that they can lead more productive lives in their own community. Consultation and educational services are also available to community organizations and businesses. To make an appointment:

Meet Olivia Kenney, Our Summer Youth & Family Services Intern 👋

Olivia will be entering her junior year at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts, where she is studying Psychology and is a member of the college dance team. She is a 2024 graduate of Traip Academy in Kittery.

During her internship, Olivia has gained experience by shadowing case management and intake staff, attending team meetings, and participating in professional development trainings.

We wish Olivia the very best as she continues her education this fall and pursues her goal of joining the mental health workforce!

📢 Nominations Now Open for the 2026 Erik Cogswell Memorial Award

SMHC is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2026 Erik Cogswell Memorial Award.

Established in 2009, this annual award recognizes an individual(s) whose outstanding contributions have helped improve the lives of people living with bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses.

The award was created in partnership with Ed and Karin Cogswell, who lost their son, Erik, to su***de in 1999. Through this recognition, Erik's legacy continues to inspire compassion, advocacy, and support for individuals and families affected by mental illness.
