Chronically ill & craving movement - but not sure where to start? ⬇️

Core stability is required to prepare the body and ensure the body hasn’t developed any protective movements - that may cause a flare or injury down the road - way before dynamic movements like heavy squatting or lifting are introduced.

You may be surprised at how challenging these are as you rebuild the brain & body connection 🧠

Save for your next workout & follow along for more movement strategies for chronically ill warriors!

Your breathing could be creating the symptoms you’re trying to calm down.

Silently working against all the hard work you’re doing, with every breath. And you take over 20,000 breaths a day.

When muscles that aren’t meant to do the heavy lifting for breathing start taking over (like your scalenes), it can lead to:
• Feeling more anxious or panicky
• Feeling like you can’t get a deep, satisfying breath
• Neck tension and tightness
• Tension headaches

Retraining your breath isn’t just about “taking a deep breath.” It’s about teaching your body HOW to breathe again to relieve pain & communicate effectively with your nervous system.

Watch yourself breathe—do you see it too? If so, comment ‘YES’ & let’s talk!

Wholesome Roots was born from wanting more.

More than constantly wondering, “What do I try next?”
More than moving from one treatment or protocol to the next without feeling any real change.
More than simply managing symptoms and calling it healing.

It grew from my belief that our bodies hold so much potential for healing—we just have to learn how to work *with* them.

After years of illness, treatment, and our bodies constantly working to protect us, movement can start to feel like a threat instead of something that gives us freedom.

But what if movement could become part of your healing?

What if you could decrease pain, rebuild trust in your body, and start moving toward the things you thought you had lost?

That’s why Wholesome Roots exists.

For the person who has battled for years.
Who has tried the treatments and protocols.
Who has made progress but still feels like something is missing.
Who isn’t just looking to manage their symptoms—they want to feel like themselves again.

If that’s you, you’re in the right place. 🤍

Comment “DREAM” and let’s connect about creating a healing plan that is built around you—your body, your goals, and the life you want to get back to.

After years of treatment for Lyme & Bartonella, I thought I *should* feel better.

But I still didn’t feel like myself.

I felt detached from joy.
Never fully rested.
Like I was operating through a constant fog.
Something just felt… off.

And honestly? I thought I needed to do more.

More treatment. More protocols. More pushing.

But the shift came when I finally stepped back and slowed down.

I went back to the basics — starting with my breath and nervous system health — and began teaching my body that movement didn’t have to mean danger, depletion, or another flare.

And slowly, I was able to move more freely again.

That gave me something I didn’t realize I had been missing: Freedom.

Freedom to see more friends.
Freedom to be more engaged at work.
Freedom to do more throughout my day without constantly calculating when I’d hit my threshold.

But more importantly?

My identity started coming back& with it, my joy.

Getting your life back after chronic illness isn’t always about finding the next treatment.

Sometimes, it starts with learning how to move forward without your body constantly feeling like it has to protect you.

One of the biggest things I hear from Lyme warriors:
“I’m exhausted, but I can never actually relax.”

Your body can become so used to staying alert that rest no longer feels restorative.

That’s why you might experience:
• Trouble falling asleep
• Waking up feeling like you never rested
• Constant muscle tension
• Feeling “wired but tired”
• The push-crash cycle

This isn’t a mindset problem - It’s a body that’s adapted to surviving.

The good news?
Your nervous system can learn something new.

That’s exactly what we work on—through movement, breathing, pacing, and gradually rebuilding capacity so your body feels safe enough to recover.

💚 Follow if you’re ready to stop surviving and start getting your life back.

When your body starts sending the signs, you shouldn’t have to just push through and hope they pass.

Knowing how to recognize what your body needs - and having the tools to respond - can change how you move through a flare. And how long it may last.

If you’re tired of guessing what will actually help your body, comment ‘FLARE’ and let’s chat about finding relief that works for your body.

What if your healing plateau doesn’t mean a ‘new baseline’?

After years of Lyme treatment, it can be incredibly frustrating to think:

“I’ve done SO much. Why don’t I feel better?”

More protocols.
More supplements.
More restrictions.
More appointments.

And sometimes the answer isn’t another thing to add.

Sometimes it’s looking at what your body can actually tolerate and recover from today.

Because healing isn’t only about having fewer symptoms.

It’s also about building capacity.

Can you walk a little farther?
Recover a little faster?
Do more without triggering a crash?
Handle a busy day without completely paying for it tomorrow?

Those are wins, too.

One of my favorite ways to measure progress is to look at recovery time, not just symptoms.

If a 20-minute walk used to wipe you out for two days and now you recover by the next morning…

That’s meaningful progress.

Don’t overlook the small changes because you’re still waiting to feel 100%.

You don’t go from sick → fully recovered overnight.

You can start with what your body can handle today.

Comment ‘BUILD’ if you’re ready to move past your plateau in healing - and towards the life you want to be living.

If you’ve tried massage...
Foam rolling...
Stretching...
Dry needling.....and your neck tension keeps coming back, there may be a reason.

When breathing becomes shallow, your body recruits muscles like your scalenes, upper traps, and other neck muscles to help with every breath.

Over time, they never get a chance to truly rest.

The goal isn’t just to loosen tight muscles.

It’s to reduce the reason they’re working so hard in the first place & this starts with your breath.

Your body deserves more than temporary relief, comment ‘RELIEF’ and let’s chat 🧘🏽‍♀️

What if your neck tension isn’t actually a neck problem?

If you’ve been stretching, massaging, rolling, or releasing your neck for YEARS only to have the tension come right back…

It may be time to look at what your body is asking those muscles to do all day long.

When breathing shifts higher into the chest, muscles around the neck and shoulders can become more involved in helping you breathe.

And unlike a workout, they don’t get to clock out.

They can be working with every breath you take.

So instead of asking:

“How do I loosen my neck?”

Try asking:

“Why does my body keep needing these muscles so much?”

That’s a completely different question.

And sometimes finding the *why* is what finally helps you stop chasing temporary relief.

👉 Try the rib check from the carousel today.

Put your hands around your lower ribs and notice what moves when you breathe.

No forcing.
No giant breath.
Just notice.

Awareness comes before change.

Comment ‘BREATHE’ & let’s chat to help you get your breathing back into your diaphragm - not your neck & shoulders.
