Sometimes a coffee is more than just a coffee. ☕️🤎

Sometimes it’s a reminder of the connections we make along the way.

This one was made by and gifted to me by another small business owner I’m fortunate to partner with in multiple ways, and that made it extra special.

There’s something really meaningful about small businesses supporting small businesses.

Behind every business is a person who is working hard, building something they believe in, and choosing to pour a little kindness back into the people around them.

Today, that kindness just happened to come in the form of caffeinated goodness.

Feeling very grateful for the people and partnerships this little business has brought into my life. 🙏☕️

I’d like to inform everyone that our team is currently out of the office through Wednesday August 5th and will return on Thursday, August 6.

Just as I encourage my clients to care for themselves, I’ll be taking a few days to rest, recharge, and be present with my family. Healing isn’t just something we talk about in the therapy room…it’s something we practice in our own lives, too.

If you’ve reached out, thank you for your patience. We will respond to messages as soon as we are back in the office.
Each one of you is important to our team.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 911, call 988 the National Crisis Line, or Text HOME to 741741 to speak to a trained crisis counselor and finally call the local crisis center/ line at, 740-354-1010, or proceed to your nearest emergency department.

Take good care of yourselves this week. See you soon.

July is Disability Awareness Month:

Today, we remind you that ...Disability is not always visible.

This is our Monday morning reminder that many people are carrying challenges we may never see.

Some disabilities are physical. Others are neurological, psychiatric, cognitive, autoimmune, sensory, or the result of chronic illness or injury.

Many people live with chronic pain, fatigue, PTSD, ADHD, autism, OCD, depression, anxiety, hearing loss, vision impairments, traumatic brain injuries, tinnitus, sleep disorders, and countless other conditions that aren't immediately apparent.

A person may look "fine" while quietly navigating:
• Limited energy just to get through the day.
• Medical appointments and treatments.
• Accessibility barriers.
• Chronic pain or fatigue.
• Sensory overload.
• The emotional weight of being misunderstood or having to constantly explain themselves.

Awareness is important, but understanding matters even more.

Instead of assuming someone's abilities, pace, or needs, we can choose curiosity over judgment and compassion over assumptions.

Small accommodations, patience, and inclusion often make a much bigger difference than we realize.

Disability is one part of a person's story, not the whole story. Every person deserves dignity, accessibility, belonging, and the opportunity to participate fully in their community in a way that allows them to experience satisfaction and joy in their life.

Let's continue creating spaces where people don't have to prove they're struggling in order to be treated with kindness.

💚 Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can offer another person is simply believing their experience and holding space for their story

At Hearth & Healing Mental Health Therapy LLC, we see you in your truth and we accept you as you are; we hope that you will learn to do so too!

🎆 The same fireworks.
Different nervous systems.
Different experiences.

For many families, fireworks are one of the highlights of summer, a time to gather, celebrate, and make memories together but for others, those same sounds can trigger something very different.

The loud booms, bright flashes, crowds, and unpredictability of fireworks can be overwhelming for many people, including:
• Veterans and others living with PTSD
• Survivors of trauma or violence
• Autistic individuals and people with sensory sensitivities
• People with anxiety or panic disorders
• Young children who are easily startled
• Our pets.

These reactions aren’t signs of weakness or being “too sensitive.” They’re often the result of a nervous system doing exactly what it was designed to do like protecting us from what it perceives as danger.

As we celebrate this holiday, let’s remember that joy and compassion can exist together. We can enjoy traditions while also extending understanding to those whose experience may look different from our own.

If you or someone you love struggles during fireworks, it’s okay to:
💚 Wear noise-canceling headphones.
💚 Watch from a quieter location—or skip the fireworks altogether and choose a more calming activity like family game night.
💚 Use grounding skills or self-soothing skills.
💚 Stay with people who help you feel safe.
💚 Give yourself permission to choose what your nervous system needs.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, especially during a celebration.

Wishing you a Fourth of July filled with connection, kindness, and compassion for one another. 🇺🇸✨

July is Minority Mental Health Month.

Our Mental health & wellness doesn't exist in a vacuum and neither does our care/mental health providers.

Our identities, cultures, families, communities, lived experiences, and access to care all shape how we experience emotional well-being and how comfortable we feel asking for
help with emotional problems or concerns.

For many people from racial, ethnic, cultural, and other historically marginalized communities, barriers such as stigma, discrimination, financial limitations, language differences, and past experiences with healthcare can make reaching out feel even more difficult.

Healing begins when people feel seen, heard, respected, and safe.

This month is a reminder that mental health care should be accessible, culturally responsive, and grounded in genuine curiosity rather than assumptions. Every person's story deserves to be understood within the context of their unique experiences.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, depression, relationship struggles, or simply trying to make sense of life's challenges, you deserve support that honors who you are.

Let's continue creating communities where asking for help is viewed as strength, differences are respected, and everyone has the opportunity to heal.

💚 You deserve to feel at home within yourself.

We would be remiss not to include Complex PTSD, to close out June, otherwise known as PTSD Awareness month.

Complex PTSD isn’t just about what happened. It’s about what your nervous system had to learn to survive.

When someone experiences prolonged or repeated trauma, especially during childhood or in relationships where they couldn’t easily escape their brain and body adapt to stay alive.

That can look like:
• Always expecting something bad to happen.
• Feeling responsible for everyone else’s emotions.
• Becoming easily overwhelmed by conflict or criticism.
• Living in survival mode, even when you’re safe.
• Struggling to trust others or yourself.
• Feeling ashamed, “too much,” or never enough.

These aren’t character flaws. They’re survival strategies that once served an important purpose.

The frightened child.
The misunderstood teenager.
The overwhelmed adult.

Sometimes they’re all the same person.

Healing isn’t about pretending the past never happened. It’s about helping your nervous system discover that the danger is no longer here, allowing every version of yourself to experience the safety, compassion, and connection that may have been missing for so long.

If this resonates with you, know this: your responses make sense in the context of what you’ve lived through and healing is possible.

Come home to yourself at Hearth & Healing Mental Health Therapy.

As we head into the Fourth of July, I hope you find moments of rest, connection, and whatever freedom looks like for you this year.

For some, this holiday means time with family, cookouts, and fireworks. For others, it may bring grief, loneliness, difficult memories, sensory overwhelm, or anxiety. Both experiences and everything in between are valid.

Wherever you find yourself this holiday weekend, I hope you give yourself permission to honor your own needs. It's okay to step away from the noise, say no to plans, wear headphones during fireworks, or create your own meaningful traditions.

May this holiday be a reminder that healing isn't about forcing yourself to celebrate like everyone else; it's about creating a life where you feel safe enough to be yourself.

Wishing you a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Fourth of July.
❤️🤍💙

🚗 June is Men’s Mental Health Month:
Our message: Don’t Wait for the Breakdown
Most of us know that if the check engine light comes on, we should probably pay attention. We understand that vehicles need regular maintenance, not because they're failing, but because they're being used.

The same is true for us.

Many men have been taught to keep pushing, keep providing, keep handling things, and to only ask for help when things become unbearable. But waiting until you're burned out, angry all the time, disconnected from your family, struggling to sleep, relying on alcohol or other coping mechanisms, or feeling like you're barely holding it together is a lot like waiting until the engine seizes before looking under the hood.

Mental health isn't just about crisis intervention. It's also about maintenance.

It's checking in with yourself before stress becomes overwhelm.
It's noticing when you're carrying more than your nervous system was designed to carry alone.
It's paying attention to the warning signs instead of convincing yourself to just push through them.

Sometimes the check engine light looks like anxiety.
Sometimes it looks like irritability.
Sometimes it looks like emotional numbness, shutting down, working constantly, losing interest in things you used to enjoy, or feeling disconnected from the people you care about.
These aren't character flaws. They're signals.
You don't get extra points for suffering in silence.
Just like routine maintenance helps a vehicle stay on the road longer, taking care of your mental health helps you show up more fully for yourself, your family, your work, and the life you're trying to build.

This Men's Mental Health Month, I want to encourage you to take a moment and ask yourself:

How am I really doing?
What have I been carrying that I haven't talked about?
What warning lights have I been ignoring?
What would it look like to take care of myself before things get worse?
You don't have to wait for a breakdown to deserve support.
Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is pull over, check under the hood, and give yourself the care you need.
❤️ Come home to yourself.
