Leadership isn't learned in a classroom alone. Sometimes it's learned hanging 40 feet off the side of a building, operating the Jaws of Life, or working together under pressure.

Our River City Leadership Academy class recently participated in Leadership & Public Safety Day, beginning with an insightful presentation from Michael Wolsten on leadership, service, and community impact.

We then spent the day with Kootenai County Fire Rescue, where we experienced firsthand the challenges and teamwork required in emergency response. The day included a live fire simulation demonstrating how firefighters respond when a house is on fire, followed by hands-on activities that gave us a deeper appreciation for the skills and dedication of our first responders.

Participants had the opportunity to:
🔥 Rappel 40 feet down a building
🔥 Use a fire extinguisher
🔥 Test thermal imaging equipment
🔥 Operate the Jaws of Life on a vehicle (and enjoy a little extra demolition!)
🔥 Receive CPR training
🔥 Compete in a team-building challenge that put our communication and collaboration skills to the test

A huge thank you to Kootenai County Fire Rescue and Michael Wolsten for investing in our class and providing an unforgettable experience. We left with a greater appreciation for public safety professionals, stronger leadership skills, and a few stories we'll be talking about for years to come.

Government Day gave the RCLA Class of 2026 an inside look at how leadership, service, and public safety work together to build a strong community. From conversations with city, county, and state leaders at Post Falls City Hall, to touring the Kootenai County Jail, and hearing directly from the U.S. Marshals and FBI at the Federal Building, we saw firsthand how important good representation and collaboration are for the people they serve.

Strong communities don’t happen by accident. They are built by leaders who listen, agencies that work together, and citizens who stay engaged. We’re grateful for the public servants who took the time to share their experiences and remind us that leadership at every level matters.

What an incredible day for the River City Leadership Academy Class of 2026 (best class ever)!

We had the opportunity to experience Manufacturing Day right here in our community, and it was nothing short of inspiring. From innovation to craftsmanship, we saw firsthand how local companies are driving our economy and shaping the future.

A huge thank you to the amazing teams at Doma, Lightning Tool & Manufacturing, ATC Manufacturing, Tedder Industries, Rocky Mountain Rollercoasters, ALK, Selkirk and Stancraft for opening your doors and sharing your expertise with us.

Each stop gave us a deeper appreciation for the talent, technology, and dedication behind manufacturing in our region. It’s exciting to see the impact these organizations are making not just locally, but far beyond.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn, connect, and be inspired. The future is bright in our community!

Healthcare is more than appointments and procedures. It is leadership in action, compassion under pressure, and a commitment to serving our community every single day.

RCLA Class of 2026 recently spent Healthcare Day learning firsthand what it takes to support the health and wellbeing of Post Falls and the greater North Idaho region.

Our group visited Northwest Specialty Hospital, where we heard from River City Chiropractic, NIACH Rehab, and Kootenai Prosthetics about specialized care, innovation, and patient-centered service. We toured Heritage Health, Kootenai Health, and Post Falls ER & Hospital to see the scope of services available locally from preventative care to emergency medicine and everything in between.

Throughout the day, guest speakers from Acrisure, North Idaho Physical Therapy, and Hospice shared powerful insights about leadership in healthcare. Whether serving on the clinical side, the administrative side, or in supportive services, every role requires integrity, resilience, empathy, and the ability to make critical decisions that impact lives.

Healthcare is one of the strongest pillars of our local economy providing jobs, driving innovation, and ensuring families can live, work, and thrive in our community. It takes courageous leadership, collaboration across organizations, and a deep sense of purpose to meet the growing needs of North Idaho.

We are grateful to the professionals who opened their doors, shared their expertise, and reminded us that leadership in healthcare is ultimately about people.

RCLA Class of 2026 | Technology Day

Our most recent River City Leadership Academy day gave us an inside look at how innovation, leadership, and skilled teams are driving our local economy forward.

We had the opportunity to tour Sysco, Safeguard Equipment, Advanced Input Systems, Innovation Collective: The Den, and North Idaho College’s Robotics Program—each stop offering a unique perspective on leadership, workforce development, and economic impact in our region.

From large-scale operations and safety solutions to advanced manufacturing, collaborative workspaces, and hands-on robotics education, we saw how strong leadership and intentional investment in people create thriving businesses. These organizations don’t just operate in our community—they actively strengthen it by creating jobs, developing talent, and preparing the next generation of leaders.

A huge thank you to each organization for opening your doors, sharing your stories, and showing us how innovation and leadership fuel a strong and sustainable local economy.

What a great Economic Development Day with the River City Leadership Academy – Class of 2026!

We kicked things off with a fascinating tour of Buck Knives, where we learned about their rich history and the incredible impact they’ve had on the Post Falls economy. From there, we headed over to Coeur Climbing to hear how their vision came to life—and why they chose to plant their roots right here in our community.

Next up was Interstate Concrete & Asphalt, where we got a behind-the-scenes look at how the materials that literally build our city are created. We ended the day with a beautiful hike to the Post Falls Dam, learning even more about what makes our area so unique.
