βοΈ Oklahoma Heat Safety Tips from Anderson Family Medical βοΈ
Oklahoma summer is showing off again, and excessive heat can become dangerous quickly, especially for children, older adults, and your adorable furbabies!
Here are a few ways to protect yourself and your family:
π§ Stay hydrated: Drink water regularly throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty. Have clean, fresh water available for yourself and your animals.
π Stay cool when possible: Spend time in air conditioning, use fans safely, close blinds during the hottest part of the day, and take cool showers or baths if needed.
π€οΈ Limit outdoor activity: Try to do yard work, exercise, or errands early in the morning or later in the evening. Take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors.
π Dress for the heat: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. Sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses can also help protect you outdoors.
π Never leave children, pets, or vulnerable adults in a hot car.
π Know the warning signs of heat illness: Heat exhaustion may include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache, or muscle cramps. Move to a cooler place, rest, and drink water.
π¨ Heat stroke is an emergency: Call 911 right away if someone has confusion, fainting, seizures, very high body temperature, hot/red skin, or stops sweating. Move them to a cooler place and begin cooling them down while waiting for help.
Please check on neighbors, elderly family members, and anyone who may not have reliable air conditioning.
Stay safe, stay hydrated, and take this heat seriously!
