For 60 years, Plain N Fancy Donut Shop has been a Schuylkill Haven tradition. After closing in 2022, the beloved business was brought back to life by local realtor and community revitalizer Tiffany Youst, who has helped save several coal region landmarks. Today, Plain N Fancy is bustling once again, with customers enjoying the homemade donuts they love along with an expanded menu of coffee drinks, sandwiches, and pretzels. On this month’s Eye on the Anthracite Region, we step back in time at the Orwigsburg Historical Society & Museum, where the rich history of southern Schuylkill County is carefully preserved and shared. More than 30 years ago, a dedicated group of volunteers came together with a mission to save the deteriorating Friendship Hose Number One firehouse. Once restored, the historic building became the perfect home for countless artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of the area and the people who shaped it. Today, the museum is not only a place to learn about the past, but also a welcoming community gathering spot that continues to bring people back to Orwigsburg.
