Happy World Breastfeeding week!

Breastfeeding is so much more than nutrition. It’s connection, safety, and infant development—all happening at once.

For some families, breastfeeding comes easily. But for many, it requires support, dedication, and a village that understands the challenges and can help you overcome.

This month, let’s celebrate every breastfeeding journey. Whether you’re exclusively breastfeeding, pumping, supplementing, using donor milk, or working toward your feeding goals one day at a time—you should be proud of yourself.

As a feeding therapist and IBCLC, I’m honored to walk alongside families through the highs, the lows, and everything along the way.

Here’s to supporting families, protecting breastfeeding, and remembering that every feeding journey is unique. 💛

Triple feeding is often recommended when a baby isn’t gaining well on breast alone. This routine consists of breast, bottle, pump at each (or most) feedings:

🤱 Breast
🍼 Bottle
🤲 Pump

This protects baby’s weight gain, while also protecting mom’s milk supply.

But here’s the question I want families to ask:
What’s the plan?

Triple feeding protects nutrition, but it doesn’t improve feeding skills. And it isn’t sustainable for most families. So we need to swiftly move toward feeding goals before exhaustion sets in. When feeding is inefficient, feeding therapy can help!

Therapy may include:
• Building oral strength and coordination
• Improving postural stability
• Supporting suck-swallow-breathe coordination
• Addressing whole-body movement patterns that impact feeding

If you’re triple feeding, I can help get you to your destination. Let’s address the root cause. 💗

I’m Carissa, a pediatric feeding therapist and IBCLC specializing in infant feeding. I help babies build the oral motor and whole-body skills they need to breastfeed and bottle feed more efficiently—so feeding becomes easier for both baby and parent. families, schedule a discovery call to get started.

If your baby is always looking up, arching, and feeds are stressful, it may be time for support that looks beyond the latch.

Developmentally focused feeding therapy addresses the foundation—posture, sensory development, and oral motor function—feeding becomes easier because your baby is working from a more stable body.

Hi 👋 I’m Carissa, Speech Pathologist and IBCLC lactation consultant providing feeding support that considers the whole baby, development and all 💗 Kitsap families, schedule a discovery call if you need breast/bottle/solids feeding support.

It’s easy to focus on the symptom:

🍼The weight gain.
🤮 The reflux.
👅The tongue tie.
👶🏾The tension.
😭The colic.

And yes—those symptoms deserve to be addressed.
But they’re also telling us something.

Feeding is one of the earliest developmental milestones, requiring the brain, body, nervous system, sensory systems, breathing, posture, and oral function to work together. That’s a lot of layers!

Root-cause care is about understanding why they’re happening and building the foundation first.

Hi, 👋 I’m Carissa—a pediatric feeding therapist, speech-language pathologist (SLP), and IBCLC specializing in infant feeding and development. I help families look beyond the symptom to understand the why behind feeding challenges. My whole-body approach connects feeding, movement, posture, sensory processing, and development so babies can build the skills they need to thrive. And when it’s complicated, I help you build a tram that gets results.

Follow along for evidence-based education on infant feeding, tongue ties, development, and everything in between.

Babies can land in fight or flight for all kinds of reasons — a premature birth, a difficult delivery, an uncomfortable body, indigestion. The list goes on.

That’s why feeding therapy isn’t just about the mouth. We start with regulation. Then your baby is actually ready for what comes next.

If you’ve tried all the tips and tricks and still can’t figure out why feeding is hard, let’s chat.

Hi, I’m Carissa 👋 — infant feeding therapist and lactation consultant specializing in feeding, oral development, and getting to the root cause of the toughest feeding situations. Your struggles are more than a mouth issue. I’m here to help.
