To those trying to silence me. To the note that was placed on my post about my son and his stage 4 cancer journey after a glyphosate incident. To whoever is behind the insinuation his diagnosis was not a legitimate argument against the Supreme Court ruling last week: Youâre about to hear the truth...
The comment that caused my post to get flagged inferred that glyphosate has only been proven to cause Non-hodgkins lymphoma in court. In the past, lawsuits have been won due to strong proof for that type of cancer. Hundreds of millions of dollars had to be paid to victims. But many other forms of cancer have been part of the claims against Monsanto including Hodgkins Lymphoma (the one my son had.) There have been over 100,000 law suits against glyphosate, tying it to many diseases. Even the WHO has labelled it as âprobably carcinogenic.â Many countries have banned it. And I have heard far too many stories of people who have been diagnosed with all sorts of forms lymphoma, including Hodgkins lymphoma from roundup exposure.
The fact that Hodgkins and other forms of cancer have not yet won big law suits (and now it seems theyâre stopped from trying, thanks to the ruling last week) does not mean these cancers do not exist and are not related to exposure. My son and I have always been careful not to say âglyphosate caused this.â In my heart, yes I believe that. But it is not what he or I have stated. We have only shared the story of what happened. And that proof is in the pudding.
The comment that caused my post to get flagged said cancer cannot develop that fast after exposure. Not giving any facts or source. Just saying it to try to shut me down. Let me give you the actual accurate time line. Not one from someone who knows nothing about my son, his journey and how he almost died...
Here it is:
My son Arden took a job for quick money spraying the bottom of power lines out of state. One morning he strapped the âweed killerâ onto his back like usual and doing what an 18 year old does, he jumped over a fence. The Glyphosate tipped forward and poured all over his neck and shoulders. He did the only thing he knew to do. He took his water bottle and poured it all over his neck to try to get it off. He wasnât near home and had to wait to the next hotel room that evening to get a proper shower. He didnât think much about it. He was a teenage boy. Even though he scrubbed extra hard that night it had been soaking on his skin all day.
It was only weeks after that he stopped sleeping through the night. He would wake, sweating all night. He developed a sore throat. He lost weight and lost his energy. His skin went from bronzed to pale. I remember his doctorâs diagnosis, the good news and the bad news. âArden you have cancer. Thatâs the bad news. The good news it is one of the easiest types to treat.â
Sadly, that proved to be the opposite of what happened. Ardenâs oncologist eventually called his case the worst heâd ever seen. This was not normal Hodgkins lymphoma, this was fast and aggressive. The tumors on his neck and shoulders (right where the glyphosate had spilled) grew so large, so quickly, they almost took over his face. The doctors initially said his type of cancer would be slow growing and he could pretty easily fight it off with the right treatment but Arden went from first stage to fourth in a matter of months. The battle to fight it took seven years of hell. As I said, there was so many rounds of chemo. Too many to count. He became chemo resistant.I watched him in his hospital bed, struggling to breathe as water formed around his heart from the weight of the tumor load.
So, you bet I want people to be aware of what happened to my son. Why his cancer was far from the âbest kind to getâ and why glyphosate needs to be labelled for the danger it is. My son battled like a warrior all those years and survived thanks to God.
The only business I was thinking about when I wrote my sonâs story after the court ruling in favor of Monsanto was the business of fighting back for glyphosate to be labeled as the monster it is. These people are telling us moms who know the truth (and there are thousands of us btw) â donât believe your own eyes. Donât believe your own experience. Donât share your story or youâll be defamed. Trust us â glyphosate is fine. It doesnât kill. It doesnât hurt people even though it kills other things. Donât trust your own gut.
Sorry. You wonât stop this mother.
