Welcome to my new page for my private practice. I should have done this a long time ago, but there is no time like the present. For those who are unsure of what a Doula is, and what we do, I can sum it up by saying this: "As a Childbirth Doula, I provide informational, emotional and physical support for a woman in labor. I am there from the time she needs me, until 1-2 hours after she delivers. I am constant. Unlike others on the delivery team, I do not do shift-change, therefore providing her the peace of mind of knowing I will be there, no matter what, no matter how long. She needs a consistent, calming presence, helping her focus on reaching her goals - It's her birth, her choices, and I am there to support her in whatever way she chooses to birth her baby. I do not replace her husband/partner. But I do specialize in reducing partner fatigue, allowing them to participate at whatever level they choose, knowing that they, too, have support, since they don't do this everyday. They may not have the confidence or techniques needed to be able to help her manage pain on the spot. Plus, they need to eat, take breaks, catch a nap, keep family and friends informed. But the laboring woman needs non-stop support. So I bridge that gap, creating a more rewarding birth experience for all involved.
