We've loved welcoming our summer student volunteers to the Clinic!

This year, 11 college students with interests in healthcare and public service are spending part of their summer serving our patients and community. While they're gaining valuable experience, they're also helping ensure our patients feel supported and cared for every day.

A patient recently came to the Clinic for an appointment. During the intake process, they shared, somewhat hesitantly, that they hadn't seen a healthcare provider regularly since childhood.

Our nurse's response?

"We're glad you're here." Just four words.

At the Free Clinic of Powhatan, our providers treat mental health with the same importance as physical health. Through our integrated care model, patients can be connected to counseling and support services right alongside their medical care, not just for diagnoses, but for life’s difficult moments and circumstances.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re reminded that health is about more than what’s happening physically, it’s also about the stress, grief, anxiety, and everyday challenges people carry with them.

We're so thankful for the support given by The Blessed Sacrament Huguenot School in a busy month to meet patients where they are. Students provided nutritious food to supplement our emergency food pantry.

The donation comes at an important time for the clinic, as demand for food support continues to grow alongside expanded healthcare services. The clinic regularly provides food assistance to patients experiencing food insecurity, helping connect nutrition with overall health and wellness.
