Fourth of July, vacations, backyard parties… this time of year brings a variety of activities, which sometimes throw off daily routines and social settings. And while many enjoy the outdoor activities that come with the warmer days, the celebratory atmosphere can feel challenging for those managing a mental health disorder.

At AwakeningsKC, we want you to navigate this sun-soaked season with some helpful tips:

1. Continue to set healthy boundaries.
2. Develop a script when you need to bow out of a place or situation that makes you uncomfortable.
3. Find moments for some “you time” to help you recharge after a big gathering.
4. Reschedule treatment instead of skipping it.
5. Surround yourself with supportive people.

If you find yourself struggling at all, we are here to help. Reach out to today and all summer long.

Not all depression treatments are the same. TMS therapy uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation—without surgery, anesthesia or significant downtime.

Research from Harvard Medical School highlights TMS as an effective treatment option for individuals with treatment-resistant depression, with many patients experiencing meaningful symptom improvement after a full course of treatment. Unlike ECT, TMS does not require anesthesia and is associated with fewer cognitive side effects.

If traditional treatments haven't provided the relief you're looking for, TMS may be worth exploring.

As we wind down Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to share a few quick tips about how to prioritize your mental health:

1. Take a walk. Even if it’s just for 10 minutes, the fresh air and movement can do wonders for your mind.

2. Create a healthy sleep pattern. One way to do this is by cutting off screen time an hour before bed (you have our full permission!).

3. Journal about small things that make you happy. Maybe it’s reading a book with a cup of tea. Perhaps it’s having a fun chat on the phone with a good friend. When you write down these little things, you can reflect on how they bring you joy.

There are so many other ways you can prioritize your mental state, but we see these as a good start.

And if you haven’t been able to focus on your well-being because of depression or anxiety, we are here to help. Prioritize yourself today by visiting the LINK IN OUR BIO.
