You wake up tired.💤
😴By 11:17 am, your brain is buffering.
🥶Your hands are cold.
👖Your jeans feel tighter by lunch.
🪮And the amount of hair in your brush is starting to feel personal.
Then your TSH comes back normal.🤯
I understand why that result feels so confusing.
TSH is a strong screening tool for primary hypothyroidism, but symptoms such as fatigue, weight change, constipation, low mood, hair loss, and cold intolerance overlap with many conditions. Iron deficiency, sleep apnea, medication effects, perimenopause, blood sugar dysregulation, depression, autoimmune disease, and rare pituitary causes can all create pieces of the same picture.
Thyroid physiology adds another layer. The gland produces mostly T4. Enzymes in several tissues convert T4 into T3, the form that binds thyroid hormone receptors. Transport proteins, illness, calorie restriction, and certain medications can influence what appears in the blood and how the system behaves.
That biology is real. It still does not mean every normal TSH is hiding a thyroid disorder.
In my practice, a normal screening result narrows the investigation while the symptom list stays on the table.
I want to know when the symptoms started, whether they cluster around a pregnancy or major illness, what your cycles are doing, how you take any thyroid medication, whether you snore, what your ferritin and CBC show, and whether your thyroid was ever checked with Free T4.
Finding which stage is failing is the entire point of a proper thyroid investigation. DM me if you need proper help.
