Thanks to and for this award and shining light on the awesome work being done at . Proud to continue to be inspired by the partnership they have had with my father, helping him to provide more free dental care than … well … anyone. The OG Dr. Z ♥️

Every year the American Dental Association selects 10 dentists that have been practicing for under 10 years for this award. I was selected for the 2021 award for advocacy, leadership, and community service. It’s cool to be recognized, but also super weird. Anyway. Whatever. Bye.

Excited and honored to be a panelist amongst such an impressive and passionate group of humans, to discuss a very important topic. Marko moderates a wonderful discussion that will likely induce discomfort for most dental providers. Topics include teledentistry, a two tiered system, Medicaid policy changes, budgetary cuts, PPE physical impact on providers, medical/dental integration, and the need for reform.

I wrote an article on Dentistry and The Culture of Blame. I was limited on word count and have plenty more to say, but how nice it would be for our profession to try to find ways to remove the weight and power of blame from the way we interact with our colleagues and patients. It’s easy and natural to blame. But where does it get us?

Last weekend I saw a bear while on a boat, climbed some rocks with my sister, discovered that the best outfit is a bikini and hiking boots, and showed the Grand Tetons some tetons. Do you ever feel so connected to the outside world that it’s as if your physical self is no barrier? Like you and the rest of the world are one? @ Grand Teton National Park

This article has created a lot of chatter. It accuses dentistry of failing to embrace scientific evidence, but then goes on to make some pretty outlandish claims that are most certainly not rooted in science. It seems to me that the dental industry has deemed this article unworthy.
However. Is there any utility in trying to see through the mess and be open to some of the authors intended themes?
Overtreatment? Student debt? Informed consent?
Thoughts?

Silver Diamine Fluoride. In the DR I referred to it as MAGIC. An incredible non-surgical potion applied directly to cavitated lesions to arrest caries in children and adults. We used this like candy, and taught the team there when and how to use it in future, to help sustain their community’s ability to stop the disease.
