Central Arizona Fire and Medical Central Arizona Fire & Medical Authority (CAFMA) serves 369 sq. miles of Yavapai County, Arizona. Visit https://www.cazfire.gov for a complete history.

The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) formed as the first Fire Authority in the State of Arizona through an Intergovernmental Agreement between the Central Yavapai and Chino Valley Fire Districts. CAFMA's social media accounts will be used to provide relevant and timely updates for community members, including posts about fire safety, emergency incidents, news, events, job opening

s, and what it's like to work for CAFMA and serve our communities. We encourage questions, comments, and concerns, but please note that in order to manage staff resources, and your tax dollars, we do not monitor social media 24/7. We expect those interacting with our accounts to maintain a reasonable degree of civility. All posts and comments on CAFMA's social media pages are considered public records. BASIC INFO:

While on assignment in California, CAFMA firefighters assisted with initial attack on the Shore Fire, working alongside crews from across the region to help stop the fire's spread and protect nearby communities.

Thank you to all of the wildland firefighters and incident personnel helping keep us all safe this summer!

Do your part to prevent wildfires by following local fire restrictions, fully extinguishing campfires, ensuring trailer chains aren't dragging, and avoiding activities that could ignite dry vegetation.

June 17, 2026, 1:20 p.m.: CAFMA personnel are conducting a planned training exercise at our Training Center involving simulated commercial structure fire radio traffic. There is no incident, no fire, and no impact to the public in the East State Route 69 area. No action is required from the public.

All activity is taking place exclusively on dedicated training radio channels, which are completely separate from the primary emergency dispatch and operational radio channels. This ensures our training can be conducted safely, realistically, and without any interference to live emergency communications. These channels are licensed specifically for training use, do not use repeaters, and the traffic is localized to the training ground.

We train as often and as realistically as possible to maintain readiness, giving crews the opportunity to drill coordination, decision-making, and communications under conditions that closely mirror real-world response. CAFMA conducts training regularly and does not typically post about routine exercises, as they are a normal part of ongoing operations, but we will provide clarification when needed to address public questions or prevent confusion.

We're aware of public questions regarding this activity and we appreciate our community’s engagement. For accurate information, please rely on official sources such as CAFMA and our partner first responder and emergency management agencies, which coordinate closely to share verified updates during critical incidents.

Thank you for your continued support as our teams train daily to stay ready.

Firefighters from CAFMA and Prescott Fire Department quickly contained and ultimately extinguished a vegetation fire in Chino Valley on June 14 after lightning ignited a large dead cottonwood tree and nearby brush. Crews remained on scene overnight to monitor for hotspots and ensure extinguishment.

Dead trees can present a significant challenge for firefighters due to their instability and potential to break apart or fall unexpectedly. During the incident, the burning tree fell in large sections before ultimately collapsing. There were no reported injuries.

If you see unusual smoke or flames, call 9-1-1 immediately. Early reporting helps firefighters respond quickly and can prevent small incidents from becoming larger emergencies.

Thank you to Prescott Fire Department, Chino Valley Police Department, and Yavapai County Sheriff's Office for their assistance on scene.
