People sometimes hesitate to mention someone who has died because they’re afraid they’ll make us sad. They worry they might remind us of our loss or bring up something painful.

But we haven’t forgotten.

We already know they aren’t here.

What you may not realize is how comforting it can be to know that their life still lives in someone else’s memory, too.

There is something that happens when someone unexpectedly says the name of the person you miss.

You hear their name across a table, in a conversation, or tucked into a story someone is telling—and suddenly, there they are.

For a moment, someone else is remembering them too.

Tell me the story I’ve never heard. Tell me how they made you laugh. Tell me something they did that mattered to you.

And please, say their name.

You aren’t reminding me that they died.
You’re reminding me that they lived. 💜
