New Blog Post! How To Start A Physical Therapy Practice

There’s a lot to goes into building your practice, just like there was a lot that went into becoming a PT. So we’re going to break down a couple first steps so you know where to start.

Quick peek into my brain to learn about what I’m assessing when you move in the clinic:

First off, there’s no “right” or “wrong” way to move. Really what I’m focused on is just how you access these movements. How you move helps me know where to focus our efforts.Below is a more complete list of the variables I’m assessing as you move:

Flexion:
Assess: ribcage mobility, shoulder movement, spinal mobility, hip movement, and how you return from forward bending

Extension:
Assess: ribcage mobility, hinging at the spine, hip movement, neck extension

Rotation:
Assess: foot and leg movement, hip mobility, trunk segmentation and rotation

Sidebending:
Assess: ribcage movement, weight shifting, unilateral bending

Utilizing the above can give us lots of information about what muscles need to lengthen, what muscles need to shorten, and what may need encouragement to do its job a little more efficiently. These all also make for easy objective measures to test, treat, and then re-test to ensure you’re targeting what you think you’re targeting.

As always, assess, don’t guess.
