Acupuncture is one of the most effective tools in integrative medicine. It is also one of the most misunderstood.

Dr. Martha Odegaard wants to set realistic expectations for anyone considering it. A single session can absolutely make a difference, particularly for acute conditions like a cold, sudden injury, or Bell's palsy, where acupuncture has demonstrated notably fast results in clinical research. But for chronic conditions that have been present for months or years, a longer course of care is typically needed.

A standard course of acupuncture is six to ten sessions. For conditions that have been present for decades, three to six months of consistent treatment is a reasonable timeframe to expect meaningful, lasting change. The body took time to get where it is. Healing follows a similar logic.

Acupuncture is not a cure-all, and Dr. Odegaard will always be honest about what it can and cannot do for a given condition.
